    Training Specialist - Engineering

    Job Description

    • As the Engineering Training Specialist, you will be expected to implement training interventions to uphold organisational skills requirements for successful job performance. You will also plan and coordinate training schedules, logistics, and budget for optimal resource use as well as developing strategic six-monthly course scheduling plans.

    More of your responsibilities will include:

    • Conducting thorough training needs analyses to identify organisational learning requirements
    • Sourcing and procuring necessary training materials and resources as well as developing curriculum and training materials aligned with identified training needs, ensuring their alignment with organisational goals and objectives
    • Continuously monitoring and evaluating learner progress to ensure skill and knowledge transfer based on intentionally designed competency assessments
    • Updating and revising training materials as needed to maintain relevance and conduct quality control checks to ensure standards are maintained
    • Identifying training needs within the organisation, recommending, and implementing training interventions
    • Ensuring training initiatives contribute to driving both business and individual performance
    • Managing stakeholders to support and deliver on functional and operational learning requirements
    • Ensuring alignment of training objectives with stakeholder goals
    • Providing guidance on training processes and policies in alignment with regulatory requirements and ensure adherence to procedures to maintain compliance with training standards and regulations
    • Developing learning materials to meet organisation-specific training needs by creating the content, designing the learning format as well as reviewing and updating the training material
    • Developing and delivering training programs aimed at enhancing the technical skills of engineering personnel in strict accordance with the prescribed course schedule
    • Planning and executing dynamic refresher training initiatives for engineering staff as well as evaluating outcomes
    • Staying abreast of industry trends, regulations, and technological advancements relevant to the mining sector to ensure training programs remain aligned with industry standards and regulatory requirement
    • Conducting assessments and certifications to validate the competency of engineering personnel, ensuring they possess the requisite skills and knowledge to perform their duties safely and efficiently
    • Monitoring and enforcing compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act
    • Providing effective oversight for the roll-out of part-qualifications and skills programs, whilst ensuring compliance with MQA and QCTO requirements
    • Manage the Engineering Learner (Engineering PIT and Learnership) development programme

    Qualifications

    • Bachelors ’s or B-Tech Degree Human Resources, Development or other related discipline (NQF level 7)
    • Applicable Engineering trade certificate
    • ISO 9001:2015 certificate (advantageous)

    Experience & Knowledge

    • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as an artisan or line manager in the Engineering discipline
    • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Trainer, with experience in managing Learners and Interns
    • Experience in Operational Risk Management
    • ISO 9001:2015 Audit experience

    Principal Rock Engineer

    Job Description

    • As the Principal Rock Engineer you will take accountability for recommending and implementing systems, processes and capabilities in the Rock Engineering discipline including sound governance and controls while supporting the development of the health of the Rock Engineering discipline.

    More of your responsibilities will include:

    • Identifying, recommending, and delivering rock engineering and operating improvements in the mine operations to support a step change in performance
    • Securing synergies in rock engineering across the Coal Business Unit through identification and transfer of leading practice and driving of collaboration
    • Developing and implementing Technology improvements to create a step change in performance and the delivery of "Now" Technology in rock engineering consistent with the overall Coal Business strategy
    • Providing quality rock engineering advice/expertise to the Coal Business Unit as required, including reviewing processes and outcomes at Coal Business Unit as well as at mine site level and reviewing of major plans and proposals
    • Managing relationships with all key stakeholders (internal and external) to understand and deliver on their service needs and resolve issues optimally
    • Leading, inspiring, and developing service delivery teams through effective goal setting, performance management, timely succession planning and embedding a high-performance culture
    • Monitoring the activities of your team which involve other teams and appropriately intervene to address any cross-team issues
    • Identifying any opportunities for improved cost management and address with applicable action plans
    • Providing oversight of the operational budgets related to Rock Engineering, including supporting the Budget Execution Processes
    • Identifying and undertaking agreed projects that improve cost effectiveness and performance, particularly where the benefit is delivered across multiple sites or is large

    Qualifications

    • B Tech / BSc in Mining Engineering or related discipline (NQF Level 7)
    • Minerals Council/Chamber of Mines Certificate in Rock Mechanics
    • Registration as Professional Engineer with ECSA would be advantageous

    Experience & Knowledge

    • Minimum 8-10 years’ experience in Rock Engineering across several Underground and Opencast Mining Environment
    • Minimum of 3 years of Senior Management experience in the related discipline
    • Experience dealing with third parties (e.g., contractors, consultants, etc.)
    • Good track record of mentoring technical staff towards achieving organisational objectives
