    Senior Civil Engineer

    • The Senior Civil Engineer will be part of an engineering team providing engineering services to large and small projects.
    • The Civil Engineer is responsible for preparing engineering calculations, technical specifications, data sheets and reports for both planning studies and the detailed engineering phase for multi-disciplinary projects. In the role of Lead Civil Engineer, the role provides support to the Engineering Manager and is responsible for supervising a team of civil, hydrotechnical, geotechnical, designers, draftspersons and GIS analysts.
    • The Civil Engineer provides leadership and assists in the resolution of all technical issues related to the discipline. The Civil Engineer participates in a wide range of projects that may cover earthworks, road and rail design, airstrips, villages, residential and commercial developments, utilities including pump stations, dams, drainage and permanent way layouts.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Assist the Lead Civil Engineer or Engineering Manager with the delivery of project requirements as they relate to scope, quantities, cost and schedule
    • Prepare Engineering Work Packages (EWPs) in consultation with the Lead Civil Engineer or Engineering Manager
    • Prepare/assign work tasks (via signed off EWPs) to individuals and continuously monitor progress and quality
    • Develop the manpower schedule to be part of the engineering and project schedule in conjunction with the other disciplines

    Qualifications and Experience

    Electrical Designer

    • The Electrical Designer is responsible for the production of electrical models and drawings in accordance with project requirements under the supervision of the Lead Electrical Designer.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Produce and maintain technical and engineering drawings using 2D/3D CAD software as required
    • Produce designs and drawings for electrical systems, i.e. motor control centre schematic diagrams, protection block diagrams, cable schedules, single line drawings, power distribution layouts, general arrangement drawings and grounding/earthing designs
    • Complete cable tray/rack routing and design 3D modelling
    • Apply the requirements of IEC/IEEE/or local codes/standards as applicable to the respective project in executing electrical design work
    • Check drawings prior to release

    • Perform clash detection of models with other discipline models

    Designer

    • We are seeking an Mechanical Designer to join our Technologies team. In this role you will be responsible for the production of mechanical layouts, models and drawings in accordance with project requirements under the supervision of the Lead Mechanical Designer.

    The Role:

    • Provide design input at various stages of the lifecycle, from layout, conceptual design, basic and detail engineering phases.
    • Design mechanisms, subsystems and equipment involving all or some of the following - mechanical, structural, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic components.
    • Review drawings for accuracy, material selection, manufacturability, machining techniques, finishes, etc.

    • Solid understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, and conveying of design intent on drawings using appropriate annotation and symbols

    Project Manager - EPCM Mineral Studies

    • Establishes and manages processes for the early identification of any potential changes to the Hatch prime contract and ensures that those changes are identified to the Client. Ensures that appropriate contractual changes are formally authorized by the Client.
    • Ensures that Hatch’s standard suite of tools and procedures are properly set-up and deployed at the project. Variances from Hatch PLP standard practice must be approved by the PDG Regional Director.
    • Ensures that project and tollgate reviews are scheduled, prepared for and held in accordance with the Hatch Project Lifecycle Process for the project or study’s particular Front End Loading Phase.
    • Directs and reviews all discipline functions throughout the project lifecycle and ensures that the discipline leads actively manage best practices within each of their fields.
    • Ensures that the required business and workplace integration activities occur. Specifically, that project documentation (contractual, engineering, maintenance and workplace change related) is managed (received, reviewed, comments incorporated, responded and incorporated in plant records).
    • Obtains client's acceptance of the work and sign-off for the completed project. Is responsible for the preparation and submission of the final project close out report, and prompt closeout of the prime contract.
    • Establishes and manages the invoicing process with the Client, to ensure that all invoices are effectively delivered to the Client with the relevant and agreed backup, to ensure efficient process by the Client for payment of the works executed by Hatch.
    • Ensures compliance to the project Environmental Management Plan.

    Lead Electrical Engineer

    Ports & Terminals Engineer - Junior

    As the successful candidate, you will:

    • Work in a dynamic team of Ports & Coastal Engineers and collaborate with other disciplines (Civil Infrastructure, Mechanical BMH, Dynamic Simulation, Controls and Instrumentation etc) in Hatch or sub-consultants on client engagements

    AEM Mobility Specialist

    • The AEM Mobility Specialist is a stakeholder in the wider HR and Mobility team to ensure compliance and consistency within AEM and to contribute to the development of the Mobility practice.

    Simulation Engineer

    The Role:

    • Hatch is looking for an energetic self-started Simulation Engineer to add to our team of global discrete event simulation (DES) experts. The DES team is responsible for doing simulation based logistics analysis for projects in the mining, metals and transportation industries. The position can be located in Johannesburg. The successful candidate will have 5 or more years’ experience developing simulation models and working on simulation projects, a broad knowledge of mining, minerals processing, material handling systems, train and truck transport solutions and port operations. Previous experience in process control or operational management would be beneficial. Knowledge of Excel, VBA, Arena, Simio, AnyLogic is desirable, experience with other simulation software is necessary.

    Responsibilities:

    • Perform simulation projects mostly focused on supporting engineering projects from concept, pre-feasibility, bankable feasibility phases. This includes problem formulation, data gathering and analysis, model building, scenario testing, multi team design workshops and reporting. Study work might also include reviewing existing operations to support performance enhancement studies.
    • Help with business development by means of response to requests for proposals from clients, participation in marketing drives and technical conferences.
    • Designs and develops accurate and valid computer-based models of mining operations, processing plants, material handling systems, train and truck transport networks and port operations
    • Helps drive the adoption of standard simulation processes across regional simulation teams.
    • Clearly communicates complex principles, ideas, and concepts. Skillfully uses verbal communication to build customer confidence and understanding.
    • Attends industry conferences, seminars, etc., and reads trade journals to stay current of current/future operating strategies and technologies as they relate to Hatch and our client’s business.

    What We Are Looking For:

    Lead Control Automation Engineer

    Summary

    • Lead Control Automation Engineerprovides engineering services to large and small projects. The S&PC Engineer is responsible for the execution of the engineering related to a specific project including, but not limited to preparing design criteria, engineering calculations, technical specifications, data sheets and reports.
    • The Systems and Process Control Engineer, reports to the Lead Systems and Process Control Engineer on a large project and to the Project Manager or Engineering Manager on a small project.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Assist the Engineering Manager or Lead Systems and Process Control Engineer, as applicable, with the delivery of project requirements as they relate to scope, cost andschedule.
    • Prepare, subject to the approval of the Lead Systems and Process Control Engineer or Engineering Manager, technical documentation required for the execution of the project, including but not limited to general layout drawings, design criteria, design calculations, preliminary studies, value engineering studies, process flow sheets, standard specifications, standard detail drawings, construction and/or fabrication drawings, equipment lists, technical specifications, systems requirements specifications, as built documentation, data sheets etc. at all times subject to a minimum of deliverables indicated in the Project LifeCycle Process gate review requirements or as negotiated.
    • Specify, select, configure and program the control system, Programmable Logic
    • Controller/ Decentralized Control System (PLC/DCS) or any other system as required.
    • Ensure that Piping and Instrumentation Designs (P&IDs) are technically correct and meeting industry, Hatch and project standards.
    • Participate in HAZOP, HAZID, SIL and other process safety related reviews as required.

    • Following the award of contracts and purchase orders as instructed, monitor the fabrication and construction work to ensure that it is executed in accordance with the engineering design.
    • Assist the client and lead engineer with respect to the decision making process in terms of vendor packages and vendor suitability.
    • Assist with the stewardship of the progress of the engineering work packages to ensure that project budgets and schedules are being met. Assist with implementing corrective action as required.
    • Assist with the facilitation of quality audits of engineering work and ensure that remedial work in accordance with the project procedures and the quality assurance plan is performed.
    • As a member of the S&PC engineering team ensure that the checking of documentation and interdisciplinary coordination is implemented in accordance with project procedures.
    • When requested, assist with the preparation of draft monthly engineering progress reports for incorporation into the engineering monthly report.
    • Assist in the commissioning of site as required.

    • A recognized degree in electric/electronic/relevant engineering from an accredited college or university or a technical qualification with suitable practical experience
    • Registration as a professional engineer or technician/technologist with the relevant regions professional engineering body/council or registration as a candidate professional in engineering actively working towards professional
    • Minimum five years project engineering experience
    • Technical exposure to the equipment technologies related to the project
    • Good understanding of Hatch systems and workflows as they relate to the S&PC discipline
    • Awareness of Hatch’s Health, Safety, Environment and Community (HSEC) policy and standards
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills
    • Good planning and organizational skills
    • Ability to function with minimal supervision
    • Sound understanding of design engineering codes and technical standards
    • Good safety awareness.

    Preferred

    • Sound knowledge of Hatch’s 3D data centric design systems
    • Sound knowledge of Hatch’s engineering management systems
    • Ability to delegate tasks and effectively supervise others
    • Experience in the use of procedures and workflows in the execution of projects.
