    Financial Accountant

    Objective of the role

    • Contributes to the managing and administration of Sanlam Investment Group (SIG) accounting systems, policies and procedures. Supports the Financial Managers through the collection, processing, recording, reconciliation and reporting of financial data, verifying the validity, completeness and accuracy of source documentation. Maintains complete and proper records of revenue, expenditure, assets and liabilities, and ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial information. 

    What will you do?

    •     Reconciliation, analysis and monitoring of the general ledgers 
    •     Assist with audits and peer reviews of audit files 
    •     Responsible for bank reconciliations
    •     Gathering of internal audit documents and actuary information 
    •     Ensure timely, accurate and valid payments of creditors and expenses in line with supporting documentation
    •     Ensuring completeness of GL accounting on JDE to final trial balance stage.
    •     Review & approval of journal entries (and preparing where necessary, especially at month end)
    •     Review & approval of monthly Bank, Debtor, Creditor & Fixed asset recons from GL to supporting documentation
    •     Review of invoicing to customers
    •     Review & approval of invoices and supplier expense payments
    •     Review & approval of statutory returns & submissions i.e. financial soundness/capital adequacy calculations
    •     Preparation of audit file and assisting with audit queries (interim/final YE)
    •     Assisting with supporting schedules for AFS
    •     Preparation of Monthly management reports reconciled to JDE Trial Balance (Income statement & Balance sheet)
    •     Review the validity, accuracy and completeness of monthly income & expenditure  
    •     Document explanations for monthly deviations from actuals to Budget & update forecasts.
    •     Responsible for reviewing control accounts 
    •     Assisting with regulatory reporting (where applicable)
    •     Ad hoc financial duties

    What will make you successful in this role?

    •     B Comm Accounting Degree from an accredited University 
    •     2-5 years’ experience in a similar role, preferably with articles or audit experience
    •     Financial Services industry experience preferable 
    •     Unit Trust experience (advantageous)
    •     Operations experience in ‘mid office’ role (advantageous)

    • Degree or Diploma with 4 to 5 years related experience.

    Qualification And Experience

    • Completed Business/Commerce/Marketing degree will be preferred

    Preferably Post Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning/RFP3/Wealth/Management 3

    • At least 1 year in the financial industry
    • Experience as a Broker Consultant in the Free State region will be preferred

    Group Benefits: Actuarial Pricing Specialist

    Who are we?

    • Sanlam Developing Markets (SDM) (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sanlam Life Limited) is one of the top financial services providers in the South African entry-level and emerging middle market. It aims to understand the unique requirements of clients and offers a wide range of simple and affordable financial solutions that cover needs such as funeral insurance, savings for education, life cover and personal accident plans. In terms of the Sanlam Group Governance Policy, SDM is managed by the SA Retail Mass cluster, which is part of the Sanlam Life and Savings cluster within the Sanlam Group. There are four businesses within the SA Retail Mass cluster, namely; Group Benefits, Individual Life, Safrican Insurance and African Rainbow Life.

    What will you do?

    • Assist the Actuarial Manager and Risk & Underwriting Executive on all product development, pricing and actuarial reporting functions. This role will entail mainly a pricing focus, with some exposure to reporting and product development. 
    • Manage monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual reporting for both internal and external stakeholders. These will include profitability reports, reserving functions, valuations, scheme and membership stats of the Group Benefits. 
    • Provide technical assistance to the Group Benefits distribution and administration functions.
    • Designing new products and solutions and support product development initiatives including the design and pricing of insurance products and maintenance of existing products.
    • Pricing of new group schemes and reviewing of existing group schemes based on claims experience.
    • Compilation of product specifications and benefit design, premium rating, profit testing, product technical specifications and in some cases participate in the finalisation of documentation per product offering. 
    • Monthly reporting on profitability, scheme renewals and quotations, highlighting any risks. 
    • Calculation of monthly reserves
    • Design, amend and implement tools and pricing models to support the pricing functions within the business.
    • Ensure all products and schemes are TCF compliant.
    • Adhoc investigations

    What will make you successful in this role?
    Qualification & experience 

    • Actuarial Degree
    • Actuarial student, with a minimum of 6 actuarial exams.
    • Minimum of 2 years’ experience at a Life Insurance company.
    • Previous pricing experience will be advantageous
