    2x General Workers

    Requirements

    • Grade 12 certificate (Std 10) required or equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification.
    • 1-2 Years experience working in a conservation related field or Horse Riding.
    • Proficiency in English (spoken, read, and written) as well as any additional language.
    • Must be physically fit (fitness test to be conducted).
    • Knowledge of small plant use – chainsaw and Brushcutter.
    • Basic Firefighting knowledge.
    • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS Act).
    • Basic First Aid will be an added advantage.
    • Must be willing to work weekends and public holidays.

    Responsibilities

    • To assist in identifying and reporting horse related ailments to the Stable Supervisors/Horse Handler.
    • Assist with horse vaccinations, feeding, medical care and grooming when needed.
    • General maintenance at the Stable and upkeep of terrain, gardens, cleanliness of the paddocks, clean/cut grass around the Stables and Offices
    • To ensure riding equipment – saddles and bridles are cleaned and maintained.
    • Assist other Stables staff with Visitor outrides as needed.
    • Assisting with erecting and maintaining fences.
    • Assist on wildfire suppression, conducting prescribed burns and preparation of fire breaks.
    • Assisting with soil erosion and invasive plant control.
    • Infrastructure maintenance including buildings, hiking trails, and signage.
    • To ensure a high level of OHS practices are applied.

    Senior Trade Worker

    Requirements

    • Grade 12 certificate.
    • Trade certificate (Electrician/ Carpentry/ Civil/ Building Engineering)
    • 2 – 3 years’ working experience as a Trade worker or Supervision position in general technical/ maintenance field
    • Valid drivers’ license
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work on his/her own.
    • Completed Trade Workers Development Programs and/or technical courses will serve as an added advantage.
    • Do standby duties and work overtime on weekends & public holidays when required.

    Responsibilities

    • Physically carrying out unskilled and semi-skilled tasks such as Civil & Electrical maintenance, electrical work, tiling, painting, and plumbing, building and welding in accordance with predetermined quality and productivity, and set standards.
    • Trade related work such as repairs or routine maintenance to buildings, structures, services (water, electrical, sewage and septic tank systems, and waste management), equipment, water pumps, etc.
    • Daily vehicle, equipment and electricity supply inspections, maintenance thereof and update of applicable log and time sheets.
    • Assistance with fuel and oil provision to all departments.
    • Daily stock control and reporting and documentation of any anomalies to supervisor.
    • General cleaning and upkeep of technical stores and equipment.
    • Driving duties include transport of equipment, materials and staff.
    • Perform daily services throughout the park providing a clean, safe and pleasant environment for staff and visitors.
    • Assist with other ad-hoc tasks as required by Supervisor / Management.

    Field Guiding Skills Programme: Addo Elephant National Park

    • Applications are hereby invited from unemployed youth who reside in the communities adjacent to our National Parks who wish to start a career in conservation. SANParks, in partnership with Cathsseta, is offering a unique opportunity to participate in a Skills Programme – in Field Guiding for a period of 6 months with a monthly stipend of R2 695.00 and a further fixed term contract of another one (1) year. SANParks is under no obligation to employ the learner upon completion of the programme.

    Requirements

    Project Manager: Business Development

    Requirements

    • Be in possession of a Business Degree in Commerce, Tourism, Project Management or relevant.
    • Must have 6 years management experience, PPP Implementation experience will be an added advantage.

    Responsibilities

    • Manage the planning and implementation and post-award management of Public Private Partnership (PPP) projects on behalf of SANParks, exercising delegated authority.
    • Consult with the management of SANParks at all relevant staged in the PPP project cycle and ensure on-going consultation and buy-in from relevant stakeholder.
    • Directly support the General Manager: Business Development Unit to comply with the requirements of Treasury Regulation 16 to the Public Finance Management Act, 1999 (PFMA) and all strategic objectives of the Business Development Unit.
    • Diligently manage the projects from inception to signing of the PPP agreement and financial closure.
    • Ensure that the projects are affordable to SANParks, provide optimal value-for money solutions, and appropriately allocate risk to the private parties.
    • Manage all information systems necessary for the proper planning and implementation of the projects.

    Requirements

    • Grade 12 Certificate – Any advanced certificate in the related field will be an added advantage.
    • Proficient in reading, writing and communicating effectively in English.
    • Valid firearm proficiency and competency certificate in a manually operated rifle.

    • Handle and use a Manually operated rifle or carbine for business purposes.
    • Valid SAPS firearm competency certificate.
    • Understanding and experience in veld firefighting.
    • Valid First Aid Certificate Level 1.
    • At least 2-5 years of game guarding/research assistant/field ranger experience in a Big Five game reserve will be an added advantage.

    Responsibilities

    • Guarding and guiding researchers during field research from potentially dangerous animals.
    • Participating in prescribed and experimental burns, Vegetation Condition Assessments.
    • Assisting with the maintenance of research infrastructure, research sites, and research equipment.
    • Downloading, collecting and capturing routine monitoring data where needed.
    • Assisting with keeping the office, research camp and storeroom areas (including gardens) neat.

    Internship Programme Opportunities
