    Smelter Welder

    Purpose of Role

    The main purpose of this job is welding of metal components to effect repairs to components and equipment. Ensure that work is in accordance with OHSA and relevant COP’s and SOP’s

    Role Context

    • Ensure all inventory and stock requirements are maintained accurately
    • Responsibility for releasing the “in-stock” levels within the agreed inventory parameters.( dry times
    • Assist drivers to register on system when reporting to load promptly
    • Immediately alert the Stock controller superintendent and Logistic Manager when a parameter has been negatively affected by external objects visible to them at time of inspections
    • Maintain a process for sampling. Manage a defined area in the stockyard for sweepings. This area will include damaged and un-saleable goods
    • Maintain harmonious working relationship with Transporters/Vendors within the operating parameters set by the business
    • Observe the correct requirement protocols
    • Observe correct stock protocols
    • Complete all necessary stock levels documentation
    • Maintain the stacker pads and the allocation of space for stock
    • Have a working knowledge of trek system and Tontrac systems to load and cancel transactions when authorized to do so
    • Comply with Tharisa Policy, Guidelines and procedures
    • Consistently deliver customer service in accordance with our customer service standards
    • Comply with our required personal grooming standards
    • Use the Trek and or Ton Trac system to drive store information and maintain records of logistic stock performance
    • Maintain Plan Housekeeping to the required standard, excluding Pragma
    • Attend training as directed
    • At all times comply with Occupational Health and Safety requirements
    • Maintain good working relationships with your Manager and your peers
    • Comply with all aspects of the Standard Operating Procedures manual
    • Other work as directed by the Manager/Business Owner

    Minimum Requirements:

    Qualifications:

    • Grade 12 and/or Minimum N2 Certificate
    • Welder Technical Qualifications: Red sealed Engineering Trade certificate or SAQA Verified Trade Certificate)

    Job Specific Experience:

    • Sound knowledge in electrical arc furnaces 
    • Solid experience in a Smelter environment 
    • 2 years’ experience as a qualified Welder 
    • Valid driving license (code 08) and own transport

    Smelter Engineering Aid

    Purpose of Role

    The main purpose of this job is to safely execute engineering task in the fields of electrical, fitting, rigging, Boilermaking and welding. Ensure that work is in accordance with OHSA and relevant COP’s and SOP’s

    Role Context

    • Safely execute critical daily maintenance tasks
    • Execute shutdown activities as per plan, according to scheduled time
    • To give direction to Assistant contractors under their area of responsibility 
    • Support asset care and optimisation for ensuring customer needs are met 
    • Assist the engineering team to ensure health and safety of employees it is taken care of through safely maintaining equipment
    • Maintain good housekeeping standards
    • Stop and report any contraventions of the OHSA, regulations, codes of practice Smelter standards and instructions promptly to the engineering foreman
    • Obtain job card and permit to work before any task execution
    • Conduct pre-work risk assessment for every task
    • The safe use of engineering tools and test equipment
    • Inspect plant equipment components and systems to identify hazards defects and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with the relevant standards
    • Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous
    • Perform a variety of routine and preventive maintenance duties in the fields of electrical and mechanical engineering 
    • Clean up work areas, equipment, supplies and materials; apply standard safety practices and procedures
    • Ensure safe execution of the task
    • Ensure that the equipment handed back to the operation is in a safe and operable condition

    Lead Investigations and Intelligence

    Purpose of Role

    To oversee and lead the monitoring and investigation of criminal and non-criminal offences including alcohol and disciplinary cases, whilst also managing the investigation of incidents, accidents, and potential violations of safety protocols to mitigate risks related to mining operations. To lead the audit, collection and distribution of crime Intelligence including docket administration, the investigation of priority crimes and application of the section 252A of the criminal act to ensure collection of court admissible evidence to achieve prosecutions in line with Tharisa Minerals’ regulations and the South African Law.

    Role Context

    Operational Management

    • Lead the investigation of organised crime by setting up operations through root cause analysis and establish undercover operations in collaboration with SAPS to identify people of interest and proceed with active investigations.
    • Drive the investigation of priority cases by overseeing the gathering and analysis of evidence, conducting interviews and documentation of findings using standardised investigative techniques in order to develop a docket in collaboration with the SAPS.
    • Lead the formulation of strategies and operational plans to promote optimal utilisation of resources in an effort to detect and setup organised crime investigation techniques and reduce crime and protect company commodities.
    • Prepare for and present formal and informal security briefings to Management, corporate communications team and members of the local community to keep them abreast of criminal trends and operations.
    • Provide input to policy development and direct the presentation and implementation of the policies and standard operating procedures in area of accountability to ensure adherence and compliance.
    • Take accountability for investigating and processing of incidents, accidents and potential violations of safety regulations including non-criminal offences within the mine.
    • Utilise extensive knowledge of mining practices and safety regulations to identify root causes and contributing factors to incidents, accidents and safety violations in order to anticipate and mitigate risks for the mine.
    • Employ partnership policing with relevant law agencies and community police forums to set in motion investigation efforts to identify and reduce priority crimes to protect company assets and interests.  
    • Provide guidance and contribute to the development of action plans regarding security actions during ER related actions such as strikes and community protests to reduce risk to mining infrastructure and personnel.
    • Manage the establishment and execution of whistle-blowing initiatives to identify and register informants, incentivise and reward for the provision of credible information.  
    • Understand and execute investigation in line with section 252A of the criminal act to gather comprehensive information that will lead to successful convictions.

    Lost and Found Property and Exhibit Control

    • Manage the Lost and Found Property and Exhibits in accordance with the FPR register.
    • Take full control over the safekeeping and control of the Lost and Found Property and Exhibits which includes key control and disposal.
    • Conduct weekly inspections on all Lost and Found Property and Exhibits with report to the P/S Manager.
    • Liaison with SAPS Detectives with regards to Exhibits in criminal Cases and the disposal thereof.

    Financial Management

    • Comply with all financial, Supply Chain Management (SCM) and other Tharisa Minerals (TM) regulations and policies by facilitating the right actions, to reduce financial risk in the Department.
    • Develop and manage the department’s budget to ensure that the department’s strategies including procurement and maintenance of surveillance equipment, rewarding and incentivising registered informants are adequately budgeted for.
    • Develop and manage a functional budget for the department to ensure that the strategic deliverables, operational plans and minor projects are adequately budgeted for.
    • Lead the implementation of effective inventory control, financial control and management of costs in order to minimise expenditure and report on cost efficiency.

    Resource and People Management

    • Provide input into required changes in resources (financial or non-financial) to enable the achievement of team and/or own objectives.
    • Determine resource needs of the team and/or own area of work to achieve business outcomes.
    • Request and allocate required assets and/or resources for the fulfilment of work objectives to guarantee quality output.
    • Monitor the use of assets and resources within the team and own area of responsibility, to ensure assets and resources are consistently and appropriately utilised and managed.
    • Provide staff with day-to-day direction and tasks aligned with standards operating procedures, to enable the usage of resources more efficiently.
    • Manage, motivate, and lead direct reports and undertake monthly performance reviews of all key Departmental staff to ensure a consistent performance tracking and put development plans in place to create a high performing team and a conducive employee climate.
    • Lead the identification and development of talent by ensuring adequate staffing, providing regular mentoring, coaching, and training in order to ensure a competent and capable workforce in line with TM’s people strategies and industry. 

    Stakeholder Relations

    • Communicate with all relevant Departments on issues of the area of speciality. Liaise across the relevant Departments by engaging with the appropriate stakeholders to ensure all stakeholders remain abreast of Departmental objectives, any potential derailers are appropriately managed and duplication of work is avoided.
    • Communicate with internal and/or external stakeholders, through various meetings and communication mediums to achieve work objectives and to maintain relationships.
    • Drive the communication of relevant investigation information to relevant stakeholders to ensure accurate information is shared and therefore mitigating risks resulting from false information and interfering with on-going investigations.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including safety operations and legal personnel to ensure accurate and comprehensive investigation outcomes to achieve successful convictions.
    • Communicate with the community through the task team and directly to provide information relating to ongoing investigations and solicit information from community members to ensure successful convictions and minimise criminal activities.
    • Provide information to the South African Police Services (SAPS), National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) and courts as witness.

    Compliance, Risk and Safety

    • Develop an appropriate plant specific Risk Management Policy and appropriate Procedures and Standards (Codes of Practice)
    • Advise mine management on safety practices, policies and procedures by training and guiding mining personnel on proper investigative techniques to ensure the gathering of court admissible evidence.
    • Participate in the development of incident response drills and emergency preparedness activities to enhance overall safety awareness and response capabilities within the mine.

    Data Analytics and Reporting

    • Draw on insights and data trends to
    • Lead the collection and analysis of data and information to produce investigative techniques for the organisation to enable planning, operations, and human resource functions.
    • Analyse data, identify trends and evaluate patterns to compile actionable investigation reports in order to set in motion the development of proactive crime interception procedures.
    • Draw on insights and data trends to develop reports and present findings in a clear and concise manner by making use of data visualisation tools, storyboarding and scenario modelling to enable the development of tailored investigation techniques.

    Requirements

    Qualifications:

    • National Senior Certificate (Grade 12).
    • National Diploma/Degree in Forensic Investigation or equivalent.

    Certifications:

    • PSIRA Grade A certificate
    • Firearm competency certificate
    • Official Training Courses in Investigation and Intelligence Gathering will be advantageous.

    Job specific experience:

    • Min of 10 years’ experience in the Investigation and intelligence fields.
    • SAPS Detective experience will be advantageous.
    • Experience in any Management positions in the Mining Security environment will be advantageous.

    Junior Strata Control Officer

    Purpose of Role

    The Junior Strata Controller Officer will be responsible to ensure safe mining excavations, gathering, interpretation and analysis of geotechnical data and report writing.

    Role Context

    • Conduct slope performance audits;
    • Investigate slope instability issues;
    • Inspect post blast mined excavations for signs of rock instability;
    • Conduct rock fall risk assessments and give feedback to the Strata Control Officer;
    • Conduct rock mass ratings, quality of rocks and structures;
    • Perform geotechnical mapping and record orientations of geological discontinuities;
    • Record presence of water seepage;
    • Conduct geotechnical logging on diamond drill core, collaborate with operations, geology, survey departments;
    • Frequently visit the pits and waste rock dumps to enforce compliance to standards and procedures, and inspect physical conditions of the highwalls;
    • Collect data from installed monitoring devices and communicate with Strata Control Officer;
    • Maintenance and management of slope stability monitoring devices;
    • Analyse monitoring data;
    • Assist in Structural modelling from a geotechnical perspective;
    • Provide input on the Geotechnical Hazard Plan(GHP);
    • Ensure that operations adhere to Geotechnical Hazard Plan;
    • Compile daily and weekly reports as required;
    • Coaching and on-the-job training for Mining personnel on geotechnical issues;

    Qualifications:

    • Grade 12
    • BSc. Degree in Geology / Engineering Geology / Mining Engineering (NQF Level 7)
    • Studying toward Certificate in Strata Control.

    Job specific experience:

    • Minimum 5 years’ experience in an Open Cast mining environment;
    • Proficiency in Deswik, Sirovision and Microsoft Office;
    • Valid Code B Driver’s License.

    Strata Control Observer

    Purpose of Role

    The Strata Control Observer will be responsible for inspects working places, evaluates rock mass conditions, measures compliance to support standards and creates awareness of sub-standard conditions in order to advance a safe working environment.

    Role Context

    • Measure standard compliance accurately in the pits and waste rock dumps;
    • Issue appropriate remedial measures for sub-standards identified;
    • Generate and distribute audit reports;
    • Perform on-the-job coaching of production crews;
    • Update Rock Engineering databases and workplace control sheets daily;
    • Perform pits/ waste rock dumps investigations and risk assessments as required and submit reports;
    • Inspect highwall scaling and barring;
    • The safety and efficiency of mining operations;
    • Pro-active reduction in levels of rock related risk in mining operations;
    • Assist Strata Control Officers in carrying out their duties to monitor rock mass behaviour.

    Qualifications:

    • Grade 12
    • Diploma in Geology / Mining Engineering (Advantageous)

    Job specific experience:

    • Minimum 3 years’ experience in an Open Cast mining environment;
    • Computer literacy is essential;
    • Valid Code B Driver’s License.
