    Internship

    Duties and responsibilities:

    Gain exposure and perform the following tasks:

    • Process transactions on PeopleSoft.
    • Capture data.
    • Journalise rectifications/changes to accounts/entities.
    • Manage accounts and general enquiries.

    Inherent requirements:

    • A bachelor’s degree or a B-Tech degree on NQF Level 7 in the field of accounting.

    The following criteria apply to the selection of candidates:

    • Should not currently be participating in an existing learnership/internship programme.
    • Must not have any formal work experience.
    • Must be a South African citizen or permanent resident.
    • Must be willing to sign an internship agreement with UFS.
    • If studying, no classes to be attended during office hours.

    Organisational Efficiency Specialist

    Duties and responsibilities:

    • Analyse and develop/review organisational and staffing models and productivity metrics.
    • Design and review organisational structures and staff establishments.
    • Analyse, develop and implement business processes.
    • Perform work measurement studies and determine standard times and workload norms.
    • Develop and improve performance management systems and related documentation.
    • Compile formal reports and recommendations for executive decision-making.

    Inherent requirements:

    • Minimum of two (2) years’ relevant efficiency improvement experience.

    Shift Leader

    Duties and responsibilities:

    • Ensure effective supervision on the shift. 
    • Ensure proper handing over of shifts and optimal functioning of security equipment.
    • Maintain overall supervision of operational areas i:e duty room, Monitoring Room, Guard houses etc.
    • Ensure patrolling of security vulnerable areas on and around campus by Incident Response Officer.
    • Ensure optimal deployment of members on his or her shift.
    • Ensure compliance with the Service Level Agreement by the contracted Security Officers and escalate non compliances to operations coordinator.
    • Ensure that the leave of their reporting lines is administered in with HR policies.
    • Ensure that performance plans for reporting lines are in place and progress is tracked on the Performance Management System.
    • Attend to any other tasks that are in the best interest of the UFS and or staff and students
    • Ensure that all reported incidents are responded to and all the relevant stakeholders are informed on need-to-know basis.
    • Ensure that preliminary investigations are conducted for reported incidents involving and are captured on CIIMS.
    •  Attend scheduled, ad hoc or delegated meetings as and when a need arises.
    • Submit member's overtime requests forms and capture the shift time sheets on finance system.
    • Ensure monthly attendance shift registers are compiled, certifying documents of staff, students, and visitors and carry out any ad hoc duties assigned by the department.

    Inherent requirements:

    • Grade 12 or National Vocational Certificate on NQF Level 4. 
    • A valid Grade B PSIRA certificate (attach a copy).
    • Valid South African driving license, code 8 (attach a copy).
    • A minimum of one (1) year’s relevant work experience relating to the duties and responsibilities.

    Recommendations:

    • Three-year National Diploma on NQF Level 6 or an Advanced Diploma/ bachelor’s degree on NQF Level 7 in Security management/Policing/Criminology or a closely related field.
    • Experience or exposure in a campus security environment.
    • First Aid training (attach proof).
    • Fire Fighting training (attach proof).

    Lecturer: Department of Social Work

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Coordinate Field Education 
    • Contribute towards the successful execution of the Bachelor of Social Work Programme.
    • Teach Field Instruction Modules.
    • Actively participate in departmental research programmes and postgraduate supervision.

    Inherent Job Requirements:

    • Master’s degree in Social Work or closely related discipline on NQF Level 9 (contract appointment: 5 years during which a PhD in Social Work or closely related discipline on NQF Level 10 MUST be obtained to be converted into a permanent position). 
    • Proven experience in the delivery of poster or oral presentations at conferences or equivalent activities. 
    • Evidence of manuscripts produced that have the potential to be converted or submitted for publication in accredited journals.

    Recommendations:

    • Three (3) years’ relevant experience in Social Work Field Instruction Education. 
    • Knowledge of Student Placements and the Social Welfare Sector in the Free State.

    Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor (Communication Sciences)

    Duties and responsibilities: 

    • Contribute to a strong academic identity and scholarly culture in the Communication Science Department.
    • Teach and assess undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Communication Science, including in a specific Communication Science specialisation.
    • Mentor and supervise final year and postgraduate students.
    • Initiate and conduct high-level research, attract grant funding, and collaborate with national and international researchers.
    • Publish quality research outputs consistently.
    • Actively participate in applicable UFS committee and management structures.
    • Contribute to programme development and curriculum review within the Department and Faculty.
    • Participate in engaged scholarship.

    Inherent requirements:
    Senior Lecturer

    • PhD on NQF Level 10 in Communication Science or cognate discipline.
    • A minimum of three (3) years lecturing experience in Communication Science at a tertiary institution.
    • Proven experience in the presentation of research papers at national conferences, where there is evidence of peer review of papers.
    • Proven national recognition for specialist expertise and research leadership in a specific scientific area of communication scholarship.
    • An NRF rating or potential for obtaining an NRF rating within a reasonable time.
    • Proven experience in the supervision of graduated master’s degree students and PhD Students.
    • A proven research record of relevant publications in national and international accredited journals
    • Served as a member of a national scholarly society OR a national committee or agency concerned with research at higher education levels OR showed evidence of service as an active member of an international equivalent.

    Associate Professor

    • PhD on NQF Level 10 in Communication Science or cognate discipline.
    • A Minimum of five (5) years lecturing experience in Communication Science at a tertiary institution.
    • Proven experience in the presentation of papers/ posters at national and international scholarly conferences.
    • Proven experience in supervision of MA and PhD students.
    • Experience as an external examiner for postgraduate students.
    • A proven research record of relevant publications in national and international accredited journals (at least 10 to 15 publications).
    • An NRF C3 rating or higher.
    • Recognised nationally as an established scholar within the communication discipline.
    • Proven experience of service as an active member of a national or international scholarly society or committee or agency

    Recommendations:

    • Ability to conduct/manage/publish interdisciplinary research.
    • Ability to teach in an interdisciplinary context.
    • Good interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) and, the ability to function well in the university’s richly diverse working environment.
    • Experience in teaching with electronic content management tools such as Blackboard.

    Subject Head/ Subject Coordinator

    Duties and responsibilities: 

    • Manage the curricula processes of the Programme for Chemistry/ Polymer Science.
    • Develop new learning programmes in consultation with stakeholders.
    • Ensure frequent and continuous development and management of the operational plan of the Chemistry department.

    • Serve on the marketing committee of the faculty as necessary.
    • Compile an annual marketing plan and budget and ensure effective planning of the implementation thereof in cooperation with the support services concerned.
    • Ensure appropriate advertising of the Chemistry department.
    • Compile marketing pamphlets or any suitable marketing materials.
    • Ensure involvement in the introduction of the Chemistry Department Road shows and open days.

    Inherent requirements:

    • A PhD on NQF Level 10 in Chemistry or Polymer Science. 
    • A full-time, permanent member of the academic staff of the Department of Chemistry at the University of the Free State (UFS)

    Recommendations:

    • Research Output: Sustained record of publishing in high-impact, accredited, or peer-reviewed journals.
    • Supervision Experience: Demonstrated experience in supervising postgraduate students (MSc/ PhD) to completion.

    Counselling/Clinical Psychologist

    Duties and responsibilities:

    • Provide Psychotherapy and counselling with regards to personal social, emotional and career development.
    • Identify, diagnose, and treat serious psychological problems and refer to other professionals when need arises.
    • Lialise with Student Counselling and Development, management, student affairs, faculties, academic departments, support services and student representatives.

    • Minimum one (1) years’ experience working with students in Higher Education, or in working with young adults, and an involvement in student/young adults' life activities or initiatives.

    Recommendations:

    • Two (2) years’ relevant experience within a counselling setting in a higher education environment.
    • Proven experience in providing career counselling to young adults.
    • Proven experience in providing trauma counselling to young adults.
    • Sesotho and/ or Zulu speaking.

    Chief Officer: Control Technician (Post Level 8): Department of Electronics and Instrumentation

    Duties and responsibilities:

    • Provide mechanical assistance to various departments within UFS.
    • Research, design and manufacture laboratory (lab) and other equipment in collaboration with lecturers and postgraduate students.
    • Maintenance and repair of various lab equipment.
    • Installation of new equipment.
    • Upgrades to older equipment.
    • Drawing and design using Computer-Aided Design (CAD), for example, Solid Works.
    • Programming of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines (Mill / Lath / Plasma / Waterjet / Laser).
    • General administration, including but not limited to the keeping of time sheets and records of services.

    Inherent Job Requirements:

    • Completed trade as Tool Maker (Red Seal)(attach a copy).
    • A minimum of five (5) years' relevant experience in a mechanical environment.
    • Competent in programming and working on Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines.
    • Competent in Metal Inert Gas (MIG) and Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding.
    • Valid driver's license (attach copy)

    Recommendations:

    • Five (5) years' relevant experience working as a toolmaker in a tool room.
