    Technical Manager

    • Provide technical underwriting expertise and advice for all Classes of Insurance.
    • Assist Relationship Managers in explaining complex underwriting principles and decisions to intermediaries.
    • Balance growth and profit when making decisions by considering the supporting business and regional strategy.
    • Analyse profitability of multi-claimants or renewal of individual policies and recommend corrective actions to Regional Managers and Relationship Managers.
    • Discuss proposed amendments to pricing models and new covers with Specialist Underwriters.
    • Manage: prepare (exception) complex and high value quotes and policy conversions.
    • When necessary, discuss and explain Risk Reduction Requirements (RRR) from survey reports and negotiate with brokers to obtain buy-in: escalate queries only if unable to resolve to Specialist Underwriters.
    • Build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders.
    • Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines
    • Review new business writtenREQUIREMENTS

    Qualifications

    • Grade 12 (Matric Certificate) qualification
    • Higher Certificate in Insurance or equivalent (advantageous)
    • Bachelor’s degree or relevant insurance related diploma (advantageous)
    • Drivers licence (requirement)
    • FAIS compliance is a business requirement.
    • Regulatory Examinations (RE) qualification

    Experience

    • 3 - 5 years’ experience working in a commercial underwriting department assessing risks, determining pricing and terms across all classes of insurance (Property, Casualty and Motor)
    • Computer literate (MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint - intermediated proficiency levels)

    Relationship Manager

    Insure successful implementation and management, of short term initiative. This job is focused on the retention and profitable growth of allocated broker portfolios through developing and management of strong relationships with intermediaries and internal business partners

    • To develop and coordinate broker relationships at a strategic and operational level, with a focus on efficiency, growth and profitability, in line with broker and Santam objectives. Strategies to achieve this will differ according to segmentation / portfolio.
    • To manage a portfolio of business through analysis, interpretation and decision making, while building effective relationships with business partners, both internally and externally
    • To ensure successful implementation of the Black Intermediary Development Initiative and identify, develop, support and grow the number of black brokers

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

    • Matric Qualification
    • Fully bilingual (English and Afrikaans)
    • Short term insurance related qualification or COP certification
    • FAIS compliant (60 credits on NQF level 4)
    • Completed RE 5 certification
    • Valid driver’s license
    • At least 5 years personal lines and commercial experience in an operational environment
    • In-depth knowledge of financial analysis processes and statistics
    • Experience in maintaining and growing a profitable portfolio of commercial and personal insurance

    KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

    • Knowledge of the Santam outsourced model is crucial
    • Technical product knowledge w.r.t. short term insurance
    • Technical underwriting knowledge
    • Good communication skills (verbal and written)
    • Excellent inter-personal and problem solving skills
