    Service Consultant

    Job Description

    • The purpose of this position is to provide support to the Relationship Managers and is responsible for delivering quality service to customers, who could be either internal or external to Santam (including brokers, customers, partners and suppliers).
    • The successful incumbent will provide support to address customer, needs, concerns and issues.

    Principal Accountabilities

    • Prepare basic reports and statistics based on risk analysis.
    • Communicate with internal stakeholders to provide information, feedback and follow through on queries and/ or instructions 
    • Address unusual and non-standard customer issues including underwriting and commercial related queries.
    • Task related decision making within set policies and procedures 
    • Research to assist in addressing non-standard underwriting issues
    • Update RM reports
    • Create client profiles for identified risks

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Grade 12
    • FAIS compliance (120 credits) preferred
    • RE 5
    • At least 2 years within the short term insurance industry essential
    • At least 1 year Commercial Lines experience 
    • Proven MS Excel experience essential

    Knowledge and Skills

    • Familiar with Excel, Word (basic), Qlikview, Intranet and Internet
    • Understanding and knowledge of Santam process
    • Understanding of all relevant customer support systems and processes related to all products

    Data Engineer

    What will you do?

    • Santam Ltd has a vacancy within the Group Underwriting division for a Data Engineer.  The role reports to the Head: Data Analytics and will ideally based in Belville, Cape Town.

    Qualifications & Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, Science/Statistics/Applied Statistics/Applied Mathematics (Postgraduate preferable)
    • 5-7 years practical experience in an Data engineering, BIBA, ETL development, analytical/quantitative environment or any other relevant field.

    Skills

    • Strong programming skills (SQL essential, SAS, Python and/or R highly desirable, Spark, Java)
    • Data Pipeline Development: Design, build, and maintain efficient, scalable data pipelines using SAS, SQL, and cloud technologies. Ensure smooth extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) of data from multiple sources into Snowflake or other data repositories.
    • Data Modeling: Create and optimize data models to support underwriting analytics, and machine learning initiatives using tools such as SAS Viya and SQL.
    • Cloud Data Integration: Implement and manage cloud-based data solutions, particularly with Amazon S3 and Snowflake, ensuring seamless integration of cloud services for data storage, processing, and analysis.
    • SAS Viya Expertise: Leverage SAS Viya to process and analyse large datasets and support data-driven decision-making processes across the organization.
    • Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC): Apply best practices in SDLC to manage data engineering projects, including version control, testing, and continuous integration (CI) and deployment (CD) processes.
    • Automation and Optimization: Automate data processing workflows and optimize ETL pipelines for performance, ensuring reliable and timely delivery of data to users and applications.
    • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, business analysts, and stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into technical solutions.
    • Data Governance and Quality: Implement data governance frameworks to ensure data integrity, quality, and compliance. Regularly monitor and maintain data pipelines to prevent errors and ensure high availability of data.

    Technical Manager

    Job Description

    • The position calls for a person who will provide technical underwriting expertise to assist the Regional Manager and Relationship Managers in managing their broker relationships at both a strategic and operational level with a clear focus on growth, profitability and efficiency in line with the Broker Services and Santam Commercial and Personal objectives.
    • The Technical Manager provides technical underwriting support for the Relationship managers and enables quicker decision-making when engaging with our intermediaries for new business quotes on large risks, renewals and other technical queries.

    Key Accountabilities

    • Provide technical underwriting expertise and advice for all Classes of Insurance.
    • Assist Relationship Managers in explaining complex underwriting principles and decisions to intermediaries.
    • Balance growth and profit when making decisions by considering the supporting business and regional strategy.
    • Analyse profitability of multi-claimants or renewal of individual policies and recommend corrective actions to Regional Managers and Relationship Managers.
    • Discuss proposed amendments to pricing models and new covers with Specialist Underwriters.
    • Manage: prepare (exception) complex and high value quotes and policy conversions.
    • When necessary, discuss and explain Risk Reduction Requirements (RRR) from survey reports and negotiate with brokers to obtain buy-in: escalate queries only if unable to resolve to Specialist Underwriters. 
    • Build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders.
    • Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines

    Requirements

    Qualifications

    • Grade 12 (Matric Certificate) qualification 
    • Higher Certificate in Insurance or equivalent 
    • Bachelor’s degree or relevant insurance related diploma (advantageous) 
    • Driver’s licence (requirement)
    • FAIS compliance is a business requirement.
    • Regulatory Examinations (RE) qualification

    Experience

    • 3 - 5 years’ experience working in a commercial underwriting department assessing risks, determining pricing and terms across all classes of insurance (Property, Casualty and Motor) 
    • Computer literate (MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint – intermediated proficiency levels) 

    Knowledge

    • Thorough Personal and Commercial Lines technical, product and wording knowledge
    • Working knowledge of Re-Insurance is and Motor Fleet underwriting
