RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent will be responsible for:
- Lecturing in Accounting at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level;
- Academic administration and management;
- Supervising postgraduate students;
- Scientific research and publications in accredited academic journals.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Lecturer:
- Registration at a relevant professional body (ACCA, CFA, CIMA, IIA, or SAICA) and a relevant formal academic qualification which provides access to a Master’s degree, OR
- Master’s degree in Accounting that includes a research component; and
- Demonstrated teaching potential or appropriate practical experience.
Senior Lecturer:
- Registration at a relevant professional body (ACCA, CFA, CIMA, IIA, or SAICA) and Master’s degree in Accounting that includes a research component, OR
- Doctoral degree in Accounting;
- At least 2 accredited publications and/or equivalent recognised scholarly outputs (accepted and/or published) or appropriate practical industry experience;
- At least 2 completed Master’s students supervision or involvement with PhD supervision or appropriate practical industry experience;
- At least 3 years’ relevant tertiary teaching or industry experience and demonstrated competence; and
- Evidence of professional engagements.

- At least 4 completed Master’s students over the last 5 years;
- Evidence of consistent and continued supervision. Involvement with at least 1 doctoral student as the main or co-supervisor; and
- Evidence of academic citizenship/professional engagement.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent will be responsible for the Tissue Culture and Veterinary Pharmaceutical Analytical Laboratories for:
- Providing extensive technical support in cell culture techniques and immuno-assays (e.g., ELISA) and HPLC;
- Applying the basic principles of an ISO 17025 quality system;
- Assisting postgraduate students undertaking routine cell culture procedures and pharmaceutical analysis within the Sections of Pharmacology and Toxicology, and Phytomedicine;
- Providing chemical analytical support and analysis for departmental research projects;
- Assisting in facility administration and maintenance;
- The maintenance of equipment and storage consumables (e.g., chemicals) used during experiments.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- A National Diploma in Veterinary Technology with 5 years’ relevant experience or a BTech or BHSc in Veterinary Technology with 3 years’ relevant experience;
- Registered with the South African Veterinary Council as a Veterinary Technologist; and
- Practical experience (hands-on) in one or more of the following techniques: tissue/cell culture, phytomedicine formulation, ELISA, and/or HPLC.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
- Proficient ability to develop and optimize new HPLC and ELISA methods and cell culture techniques;
- Proficient knowledge and understanding of ISO 17025 accreditation;
- Skilled in the use of MS Windows, MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
- Appropriate language and communication skills;
- Ability to work independently and in a group;
- Ability to manage laboratory schedules and coordinate student rosters, and
- Ability to design and implement SOPs for equipment use and ensure fair and efficient use of shared equipment.

- A postgraduate qualification in the relevant field;
- Experience in a cell culture laboratory and/or in an analytical laboratory directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified;

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To provide administrative and project administration support to the Director of the Department of Research and Innovation and interact with internal and external stakeholders in the area of research, innovation, partnerships and training.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing the Director’s diary;
- Making local and international travel arrangements for the Director;
- Sending general correspondence and circulating general notices to the staff members and other stakeholders on behalf of the Director;
- Conducting project administration assistance to the Director;
- Supporting the Director with Human Resource Administration and Management of Contracts and Claims;
- Arranging departmental workshops such as strategic breakaways, DRI team-building sessions, end of year functions, etc.
- Taking minutes during the department-wide meetings and circulating reports for approval;

- Reporting defective furniture and ordering new furniture via the Department of Facilities Management and from external suppliers;
- Processing payments on the relevant financial system for UP-registered suppliers;
- Creating requisitions and processing invoices for the payments of suppliers on behalf of the Director;
- Coordinating and facilitating targeted ad hoc projects within the Director’s office and as directed by the Director;
- Conducting desktop research on different topics as directed by the Director;
- Performing quality assurance, for compliance purposes, on all documents (letters, memos, reports, etc.) coming into the office of the Director.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- A three-year Secretarial or Office Administration Diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution;
- At least 2-years secretarial and administrative experience;
