    Verifiication Officer – REF: JWVO395X/2025

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

    • Receive SAP meter test request and schedule removal date with the relevant section. Conduct site investigation on meter queries in line with the SOP. Compile an outcome report based on information obtained from conducting sites investigation and compliance audits. Witness the removal of meters and ensure that installations are carried out in accordance with the legal requirements. i.e Legal Metrology Act and SANS standards.
    • Conduct verifications, tests, calculations and calibrations of different water meters types on different test benches.Conduct quality checks, create verification, rejection or calibration certificates within the required turnaround times as per the SLA.
    • Conduct inspection and compliance audits of purchased meters to ensure compliance to Legal Metrology Act. Conduct method modification or development and validation of new methods. Perform ad hoc Inspections on projects related developments on as and when required by City of Johannesburg (CoJ) or any other JW departments.
    • Ensure adherence to Verification Officer’s powers. i.e Legal Metrology Act and Technical Regulations. Operate the overhead crane to lift heavy equipment and machinery during testing or when required. Report malfunctioning of instruments to the Technical Manager.
    • Evaluate calibration data of all measuring standards, equipment and ensure it meets the standard specification.Conduct equipment in-service checks to ensure the validity of results. Supervise General Workers. Implement Quality Assurance programs to assure confidence in reliability and accuracy of results. Attend competency-based assessment to obtain approval by SANAS as a Technical Signatory.Adhering to the legislative requirements of the National Regulator; ISO 17025. Legal Metrology Act, SANS Standards, Accreditation system and CoJ Bi laws. Adhere to occupational health & safety environmental procedures as stipulated by the company and OHS Act.

    JOB REQUIREMENTS: ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

    • Grade 12 (NQF4) (Mathematics & Physical Sciences) or N3 Technical Matric (NQF 4)
    • 2 years’ experience in Flow Laboratory environment and valid Verification Officer Certificate 
    • Must be able to attain Technical Signatory status in 18 months of employment
    • Valid driver’s licence for light vehicle (code B)

    General Workers – Bulk Wastewater REF: JWGWBWW/2025

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Unblock belt presser and line plant. Assist to change belt presser and line it back to the machine. Ensure there is pump oil and grease into the motor machine. Remove and install the pump on the pump-station with the supervision of Artisan Fitter. Assist to remove and install gear box on the Waste Secondary Tank.
    • Assist to remove bearing on the belt presser. Assist to change rollers from the belt presser. Assist to replace roller belt on the conveyor belts. Clean the workshop. Issue work tools to the Artisan Fitter. Inspect and report faulty machine to the Artisan. Demonstrate all safety precaution at the workstation. Ensure that the V- Belts machines are in good condition i.e. Oil, Grease, Diesel, Hydraulic oil. Tighten the bolts of the machine.
    • Service the tractors/lawn machine that cut the grass in various depots. Service all the machine in the plant. Clear and clean worksite after repairs/maintenance. Manually excavate and backfill shallow trenches using pick and shovels. Carry and pass tools and material to the supervisor as requested. Assist Operator /Artisan with assembling and tightening of fittings. Assist the Operator/Artisan with minor and major burst repairs using fittings and tools. Assist Artisan/Operator with clearing sewer blockages using drain rods and tools. Open and close valve chamber covers, and manhole covers.
    • Assist Artisan / Operator with operating valves and repairing leaking valves using gland packing. Assist Artisan/Operator with the repair and maintenance of meters. Assist Artisan/Operator in installing new connections. Drain water from excavations or chambers using the water pump, as directed by the supervisor. Assist supervisor with barricading and placing safety signs on.
    • Control and direct traffic with road signs and a red flag when required. Clean and pack tools accordingly. Assist the Operator/Artisan by checking that all relevant tools and or material are available in the truck before leaving for a job. Manually load and deliver materials to and from the truck and worksite.
    • Promote safety in the depot and worksite by immediately rectifying unsafe working conditions and reporting this to supervisor. Operate and carry out all work within the statutory requirements as laid out in the OHASA, as per instruction from Operator/Artisan and/or Foreman. Follow instructions by supervisors regarding Disaster Management plan. Attend and participate in Toolbox talks and meetings. Advise supervisor of tools and equipment that are defective or unsafe to use.
    • Load tools, equipment and material in a sale manner. Wear and ensure proper use of PPE. Cut grass. Trim trees. Spray of weed killer on the paved areas. Maintain good housekeeping of grounds and environment. Assist in general operations and maintenance of grounds and gardens.

    General Workers – Technical Services Electrical Support REF: JWGWTSES/2025

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Provide physical work and fundamental responsibilities at all Johannesburg Water sites managed by Electrical Support Section. Assist Supervisors daily in their general tasks. Pump out areas that are flooded. Clean Johannesburg Water assets daily such as fleet, equipment, telemetry I CP enclosures, stores etc.
    • Load and offload equipment daily. Sort and store goods in a safe, clean and orderly manner weekly. Carry out inventory counting as and when required. Replace of batteries (swap old-for-new or discharged with charged) as and when required. Clear drive and walkways (grass cutting I weeding and shrubbery cutting) to and around bunkers.
    • Test posts and enclosures as and when required. Trench, sleeve and lay cables / inspection boxes as and when required. Visual Inspection monthly of various equipment e.g., plug points, lights. fencing etc. Assist in the installation of equipment. Including level sensors as and when required. Assist in the installation of new lighting on sites. and replace faulty lights as and when required.
    • Assist supervisor monthly with inspection of fire extinguishers on site. Promote safety in the workplace, by immediately rectifying unsafe working conditions and ensure that any problems, defects or non conformities are immediately reported to the Supervisor. Operate and carry out all work within statutory requirements as laid out in OHS act and as per the instructions from the Supervisor and all other management.
    • Attend and participate in all Toolbox talk meetings and any other safety related meeting if requested to do so. Ensure that all relevant PPE issued by Johannesburg Water is worn all the time during working conditions and is used in the correct manner as intended, including safety boots, overalls. gumboots and safety harnesses.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Attend to general physical work as requested by the immediate supervisor or management. Assist the artisan in daily Maintenance of Electrical Installations (Distribution Boards and associated equipment i.e. Lights, Plugs, domestic contactors). Assist the Artisan in monthly/ quarterly Earth Leakage Testing for Johannesburg Water designated sites.
    • Assist the Artisan in quarterly maintenance of reservoir sites. Assist the Artisan in daily maintenance of mechanical installations in pump stations (water and sewer), reservoirs and towers (pumps, motors, valves (PRV, Level control valves), pipes (steel, asbestos, stainless), pipefittings (couplings etc.). Minor repairs of designated sites installations, as and when required. Trenching as and when required. Assist the Artisan in the replacement/installation of level controllers, ultrasonic head. Assist the Artisan in the replacement of lighting protection.
    • Assist the Artisan in the repairs/ installation of DBs, Earth leakage unit, Isolators/Circuit Breakers, Timers, Lights, Plugs and domestic contactors. Assist the Artisan in the disconnect and reconnect of Electrical Motors. Assist the Artisan in the Installation of new lighting technology.
    • Assist the Artisan in the replacement/installation of pumps and valves, pipes. Assist in the alignment of pumps and motors. Assist the Artisan in the Installation or movement motors, pumps, valves etc. from position. Assist welders in undertaking welding repairs (on pipes, fence, gates etc.) as and when required by electro-mechanical depots (sewer and water) and by Networks.
    • Assist artisans (water) in the resolution of all sarnpling point related issues (cage door jams, installing of taps etc). Assist welders in undertaking welding repairs on pipes, fence, and gates as and when required. Assist the Artisan in the monthly Inspection of Fire Extinguishers. Assist the artisan in the Monthly Inspection of level control equipment (Sewer).
    •  Assist the artisan in the  Quarterly Inspection of level control equipment (Water). Assist the artisan in the inspection of Tools. Assist the artisan in the monthly inspection of portable electrical equipment. Assist the Artisan in the monthly inspection of lifting equipment. Clean the workshop and general housekeeping. Daily inspections and cleaning of sewer baskets. Clean pump stations inside, feather dust and report all defects to buildings.
    • Clean pump stations outside, sweep paving, feather dust and report all defects to fencing or manhole covers. Handling and disposal of recovered material. Handle and dispose recovered material from designated sites during repairs and maintenance.

    General Workers –Technical Services Flow Laboratory REF: JWGWTSFL/2025

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
