    Specialist Data Scientist

    Job Summary

    Leverage deep data science expertise in advanced statistics, data wrangling, data mining, data analysis, feature engineering &predictive modeling, storytelling, distributed computing & data visualisation, machine learning tools & data intuition to define, build, operationalize & continuously improve data solutions that deliver relevant, quality assured, accurate & commercially impactful data to the business.
    Job Description

    Data Science

    •  Participate in design thinking processes to determine & confirm hypotheses and priority questions / data challenges & related metrics to be solved for
    •  Translate business questions to be solved into data requirements & define a data solutions to deliver against these requirements
    •  Proactively partner with the data engineering team to refine the data requirements deliver raw data to Data Science teams for interpretation & analysis
    •  Design fit for purpose data interpretation & analysis approaches & create customized data models, algorithms, machine learning tools and recommendation engines to achieve the desired business outcomes
    •  Use advanced data science skills to mine & interpret data. These include but are not limited to: advanced statistics, data wrangling, data mining, data analysis, feature engineering & predictive modeling, distributed computing, machine learning tools & data intuition
    •  Analyse & interpret complex data sets
    •  Apply quality assurance frameworks to test model & analysis techniques (e.g. algorithms, models) & overall data quality
    •  Apply the testing frameworks to monitor and analyse model performance & data integrity on all data assignments
    •  Produce business insights and recommendations based on data analysis & modeling concluded & where relevant with knowledge and experience of e.g. Java, Scala, Python, Hadoop, Apache Spark & Kafka
    •  Use storytelling and data visualization techniques to maximize impact & deliver a user friendly product to business
    •  Contribute to the consolidation of data solutions into viable end products (in the language of business) that can be leveraged on an ongoing basis e.g. dashboards, reports etc.
    •  Present data analysis (trends, insights, forecasts) & findings to business & show tangible business impact to be derived from the data science process
    •  Facilitate peer reviews & feedback on data solutions
    •  Refine data analysis based on business & peer reviews
    •  Contribute to the assessments of the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources & data gathering techniques
    •  Promote data literacy with your business stakeholders by sharing best practices and showing tangible business impact & recommendations as a direct result of the the data solutions provided
    •  Stay ahead of the curve on data science trends & leading practice data science tools and techniques & transition the organisation to advanced methods for the continuous optimization of data

    Accountability: Risk & Governance

    •  Identify data risks and mitigate these (pre, during & post solution deployment / data delivery)
    •  Create business cases & solution specifications for various governance processes (if required)
    •  Apply data quality assurance frameworks and tools to guarantee data quality & data integrity (always) for specific data solutions
    •  Contribute to risk, governance, compliance & broader regulatory processes as a data science expert (if & when required)

    Accountability: People

    •  Coach & mentor other data scientists
    •  Conduct peer reviews, testing, problem solving within and across the broader team

    Education

    Job Description

    • Provide weekly status report to the Regional Managers indicating completed work, work in progress and pending credit applications, as well as approval ratios.

    Education and experience required:

    • NQF level no. 6

    • Essential: 3 Years financial statement analysis in credit environment.

    • Preferred: Credit Risk Assessment experience

You will work as part of an integrated (run & build) tribe in lower complexity environments to provide enterprise wide application support across multiple stakeholder groups by maintaining & optimizing enterprise-grade applications (tech products & services).

    The Trade team supports all trade applications across the Africa continent, for local and international trade, with a range of trade and working capital solutions.

    We offer trade products that will help our clients to manage risks, negotiate terms, and reduce pressure on cash flow to enable our clients to trade confidently and efficiently.

    Our trade solutions are inclusive of both customer-facing systems as well as back-end operational systems.

    The emergence of FinTech has captured a large share of the market in the banking revenue pools. In response, we are reinventing our digital trade strategy to compete with FinTech to enable the bank to stay relevant and meet the demands of the digital future.

     

    By introducing agility and removing the complexity of legacy systems we are enabling our various Trade Channels to be at the forefront of the banking digital age, in addition, improving the way transactions are processed.

    Our solution:

    We are striving to deliver standardized solutions that are built on the latest technologies and infrastructure, i.e. open-source and AWS cloud solutions. These solutions will allow cost-effective roll-out across the African continent. Our team aids the trade business to meet multiple demands including channel support, third part integrations and non-banking channels.

    Skills and experience required:

    • Degree in information sciences or equivalent tertiary qualifications in the information systems disciplines.

    • 5+ years system support experience with the ability to:

    • Conduct technical impact assessments for planned changes or following any production incident.

    • Provide production support by resolving any production outages and implementing permanent resolutions for technical defects identified during production outages.

    • Monitor and conduct consistent Start of Day / End of Day checks to ensure that systems are fully operational for business to function.

    • Manage a User Access process to ensure all necessary access requests are completed and authorized according to Audit requirements.

    • Demonstrate an inclination to ensure all systems are running cost-effectively.

    • Conduct system deployments, coordinate the deployment, ensure relevant support is available, obtain UAT signoff from business and raise change requests.

    • Collaborative team player that can demonstrate and focus on the quality of delivery / communication and product

    • Experience working in a similar corporate environment would highly advantageous

    Knowledge required:

    • AIX and Windows Operating Systems

    • Oracle and PostgreSQL databases

    • Java Applications

    • Cloud Computing - AWS

    This role is suited to a candidate with a B-degree in Law or LLB, Admitted attorney or Advocate with 5 years or more relevant experience as an in-house legal counsel in a financial institution, other corporate, in a reputable law firm or at the Bar.
