    Technical Services Manager

    • We are currently accepting applications for the following position located in the Witbank, Mpumalanga area.
    • Technical Services Manager
    • The successful candidate will be responsible for taking the lead in considering, planning, incorporating and monitoring all technical long, medium-and short-term requirements of the Complex. This includes the effective identification of mining areas, accurate estimation of products to be mined, sequencing of events, plans to address market needs and the optimal utilisation of reserve resources. The incumbent is also responsible for ensuring that coal reserves identified by the Geologist are benchmarked against technical data to ensure the validity of submitted calculations; mining activities within the Complex are monitored and that special attention is given to volumetric requirements and the quality of products mined; and that all activities of the Technical Services Department are controlled. 

    Key Responsibilities

    • Taking the lead in the development of the Life of Mine and Business Pan for the Complex.
    • Ensuring that short- and long-term mining plan for the Complex are put in place and engaging with the Complex management team and production teams to ensure that the plans are executable, address market requirements and ensure the optimal utilisation of reserve resources.
    • Monitoring execution against the plan and putting in place mitigation plans together with the production teams and Group Subject Matter Experts as necessary.
    • Ensuring that processes and systems are put in place for the delivery of expectations in the areas of Mine Planning, Geology and Survey for the Complex.
    • Understanding relevant legislation and risks in areas of responsibility and ensuring Complex compliance with all legislative requirements and that mitigation plans are put in place to manage risks.
    • Leading by example in building the team and ensuring the capability and development to deliver on expectation.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • A Relevant Tertiary Qualification.
    • A Management qualification will be advantageous.
    • A Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency or having passed the equivalent of the DMR part C (Law Exam) will be advantageous.

    Minimum Experience

    • Minimum 8 years in the Mining environment of which 3 years should be in a D-Upper Technical or Mining Production Role.

    Senior Metallurgist

    • We are currently accepting applications for the following position located in the Witbank, Mpumalanga area.

    • The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the delivery and execution of the Operational Plan for areas of responsibility, focusing on the areas of safety and production through selection, development and optimal utilisation of people and equipment; the daily, weekly and monthly monitoring of the relevant processes and delivery of targets; and the identification and management of risks.

    • Participating in the formulation of the functional plan and engaging with Plant Managers to ensure the proper execution of the plan and the monitoring the achievement of targets across areas of responsibility.
    • Providing input to ensure the capability and proper allocation, deployment, and optimisation of people and other resources.
    • Identification of hazards and risks in areas of responsibility and ensuring that proper controls are put in place to ensure the mitigation of these risks as well as the monitoring compliance to policies, regulations and standards.
    • Ensuring the understanding of processes by the teams in area of responsibility - ensuring the development of knowledge and sharing of best practice of these processes
    • Ensuring the creation of a culture and environment that is conducive for the delivery of targets.
    • Monitoring all saleable and sales qualities to ensure that the required specifications are met.
    • Initiating and managing improvement projects from start to completion within the required specifications.
    • Providing technical support to the Plant Managers and engaging with the Geological Department to evaluate daily and monthly yields vs budget and forecast.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • A relevant Tertiary Qualification (NQF level 7) in Metallurgy.
    • Advanced Lump Ore Beneficiation Certification will be advantageous.

    Minimum Experience:

    • Minimum 2 years’ experience at a D2 role.
    • Understanding of the Coal Processing and Metallurgical environment and various business processes.

    • A Surface Blasting Certificate for Coal Mines.
    • A Mine Managers’ Certificate of Competency or Glencore Internal Law Examination.

    Minimum Experience:

    • 2 Years opencast coal mining experience at a Production Superintendent level.

    Human Resources Development Superintendent

    • The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and managing employee and entry -level talent development processes, coordination of development activities as legislative compliance and reporting within areas of responsibility.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Participating in the crafting of the Group Learning and Development Strategy.
    • Taking responsibility for the learning and development initiatives related to the Group Services and Melrose support services departments.
    • Managing the Adult Education and Training (AET) function, the Bursar, Graduate Trainee, Supervisor in Training, Practical Learner Program Programs, including liaison with various tertiary institutions, the Department of Basic Education, and other relevant service providers.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Registration as a Psychometrist will be added advantage.

    Minimum Experience:

    • 5 Years’ Human Resources Development experience.
    • Understanding and working knowledge of the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA), Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA) and Broad Base Socio Economic Empowerment Charter (BBBEEE), Social and Labour Plans as they relate to training and development.
    • Understanding of and working knowledge of general psychometric tools in use within the industry and their application.
