    Underwriter _Pretoria

    Role Objectives:

    • To underwrite in line with our underwriting guidelines and mandates.  Meeting the required daily, weekly and monthly processing targets set. Ensuring backlog control is achieved by ensuring that backlogs meet the required timelines.  Ensuring broker satisfaction through adherence to the service level agreement set within the underwriting framework. Provide First Call Resolution. Enhance Broker Satisfaction and contribute to savings and profitability through effective underwriting of policies. Resolving credit control queries within the service level agreement.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Adherence to underwriting guidelines and mandates, processes and standard operating procedures
    • Achieving Underwriting daily, weekly and monthly targets set, along with tracking individual performance related to productivity & turnaround times expectations
    • Ensuring that individual backlogs are controlled within the required timeline, and providing action plans when timelines are exceeded. Taking accountability for managing individual backlogs is a must.
    • Ensuring strict adherence to service level agreements and turnaround times.
    • Strictly act within the agreed mandate in terms of discount, treaty limits, loss ratio etc.
    • Provide quotations on existing policies as required by brokers within the service level agreement.
    • Processing cases on line of business systems for New business, renewals, mid-term adjustments, cancellations and reinstatement across Commercial, agriculture, Hospitality, Sectional titles and personal lines product offerings.
    • Ensuring accurate record-keeping on all cases on workflow systems
    • Requesting surveys within survey parameters
    • Escalate queries or deviations from standard operating procedures and processes to the line manager where required.
    • Attending to referrals and requesting reinsurance placements from the regional technical underwriting team within the required process.
    • Attending to credit control queries received and ensuring that policies match broker schedules to avoid credit control discrepancies.
    • Ensure that post-renewal schedules are obtained on renewals, and process a month before the renewal date to ensure renewal growth on monthly results.
    • Take ownership of queries and provide feedback to brokers, management, internal and external stakeholders timeously
    • Ensure that protocol is followed in terms of regulatory requirements and necessary disclosures to be made (TCF)

    Required Knowledge and Experience    
    Required Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

    • Commercial, Agriculture, Hospitality and Sectional Underwriting knowledge and experience minimum of 5 years of Underwriting experience.
    • Experience in administering and processing New business, renewals, mid-term adjustments, reinstatements and cancellations.
    • Experience in resolving credit control queries related to Underwriting processing.
    • Knowledge of Insurance lines of business systems.
    • Knowledge and understanding of broker 3rd party system schedules
    • Compulsory understanding of Underwriting guidelines and mandates, processes and standard operating procedures.
    • Understanding of insurance principles, knowledge and understanding of governance and compliance requirements related to Underwriting.
    • Experience in managing individual backlogs with high-volume underwriting cases.

    Executive Personal Assistant

    Job Purpose 

    • To provide high level confidential support to the Chief Risk Underwriting Officer and Chief Operating Officer by providing a full secretarial and administrative service.  Ensuring that effective planning and administrative systems are in place and maintained efficiently and effectively. 

    Key Responsibilities:

    • To act as a first point of contact dealing with correspondence and phone calls  
    • To proactively manage and coordinate the diary of the CRUO and COO by prioritising and arranging internal and external meetings, ensuring appropriate briefing papers are prepared and provided.  
    • Plan and organise travel and accommodation when required  
    • Maintain effective filling and data storage including emails and retrieval systems ensuring the needs of the executive’s are met.  
    • To provide full personal assistant support by dealing with all correspondence and calls, drafting routine letters to a high standard, minute meetings, taking messages and other administrative tasks as required to support the Executive’s.  
    • To provide support for Board meetings by ensuring meetings are properly arranged and serviced. This will include drafting agendas, collating papers and reports, taking minutes and following up action points.  
    • To service meetings of the Senior Management Team by drafting and collating papers and reports, preparing manageable agendas, taking minutes and following up on actions points.

    • Excellent, administrative skills including the ability to identify administrative needs and develop and maintain appropriate systems to meet them
