    Control & Instrumentation Technician (C&I)

    Description

    • The C & I Technician is responsible to maintain and optimize all electrical and C & I Systems in responsible area, within budget, by managing breakdowns, processes and equipment, spares, procedures and quality files and documents.  Liaise with customer, i.e. production and mechanical colleagues on a daily basis to achieve the global delivery and quality targets set by the Company for the section.

    PERSON SPECIFICATIONS:

    • Minimum qualification of N6 Diploma, S4 or B. Tech in Electrical/Instrumentation Engineering with at least 5 years (for the senior C & I, and 3 years for the Junior C & I)  of experience in a metals manufacturingindustry:  furnaces, hot- and cold rolling, and/or other heavy engineering industries.
    • The ideal candidate would have done programming and fault finding on Siemens, PLC's, Rockwell or ABB (Siemens S5, S7, or 1500, TIA Portal);
    • The ideal candidate must have fault finding and programming/commissioning experience on AC and DC variable speed Drives (ABB/Siemens/Nidec);
    • The ideal candidate would also be able to do programming and fault finding on SCADA Systems (Intouch & WinCC)
    • Experience on Electrical Distribution i.e. motor testing and electrical fault finding (525V)
    • Sound knowledge of process instrumentation and PID Control loops
    • Knowledge of radiation detection systems will be an advantage
    • Knowledge of gas installations as well as ladle and vessel burners will be advantageous
    • Ability to do report writing and data trending or analysis for reliability engineering will be advantageous
    • Ability to work under pressure and meet work deadlines with attention to details

    Requirements
    JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

    • Provide first line maintenance support to ensure 24 hours coverage in order to enhance plant availability, product quality and cost;
    • Perform combination of Electrical and Instrumentation tasks
    • Provide a service to production to minimize delay times and solve reoccurring delay's
    • Perform standard and shutdown schedules and tasks
    • Test spares that have been repaired
    • Maintain store items (spares) and identify and manage LRU's
    • Work in close relation with other Instrumentation Technicians, Electricians and Millwrights
    • Standby duties
    • Implementing optimizations and new capital projects.

    Manager - Social Security Benefits

    Job Specification

    The incumbent will play a supportive role and act as a subject matter expert in the management of key employee social benefits, notably the employer based medical aid and the retirement fund.  This role will understudy the Senior Manager:  Social Security in managing these portfolios.  The incumbent will be appointed as an Employer Trustee on both medical and pension fund board of trustees.
     The responsibilities (in a supportive role) including being part of Strategy formulation and execution for both entities ensuring that they function within proper legislative and governance framework.  These entail being part of the coordination of the appointment or election of boards of trustees, training, identification and selection of external service providers like administrators, investment managers and insurance service providers.
     Liaison with statutory bodies as is the in-depth knowledge of how they function (e.g. Council for Medical Schemes, Prudential Authorities, etc.) as a key part of this job.
     In-depth knowledge of industry players and the applicable legislation is also a key requirement.  Additionally, the incumbent must possess above average knowledge of finance, budgeting, investments, IT, contract drafting as well as medical aid and pension fund industry knowledge.  Wide networking and hands on approach will be an absolute requirement.

    Requirements
    Person specifications:

    •  The incumbent must be in possession of a Bachelor's or post graduate degree:  BA, B. Comm. - Finance, B. Soc. Science with Finance and Accounting Modules.  
    •  Experience in one or more in the following will stand the incumbent in good stead: Registered Financial / Insurance / Tax practitioner / Investment Manager / Principal Officer of Pension/Medical Scheme.
    •  Specialized background in the Medical or Pension Scheme environment, Finance / Insurance or Investment knowledge.
    •  At least 8 - 10 years operating in any of the above mentioned industries.
    •  Experience working with Boards of Trustees in a medical or pension fund environment.

    Legal Requirements:

    •  No criminal record;
    •  Candidate must not have been declared insolvent.  Must pass the test of being fit and proper.
    •  In depth knowledge of the Pension Fund Act, Medical Aid Scheme Act, Divorce Law, Estate Duty Act and all Employment Legislation is a requirement.

    Engineer Process Metallurgy

    Description

    The Engineer Process Metallurgy is responsible for aligning products and processes to customer needs. The incumbent sets standards and implements systems to support product realization (Process parameters and procedures)

    Job Specification: 

    • Determines product characteristics based on customer or specification requirements
    • Develops process parameters to meet these requirements
    • Sets the standards for product realisation (rules, procedures)
    • Monitor the product and process for quality and throughput
    • Setting up process parameters for new products to be made
    • Do disposition decisions on non-conforming product
    • Implement business systems to support the above
    • Optimise product throughput (quality, yield, volume, cost)
    • Training of metallurgical EITs(Engineers in Training) for the business
    • Solve technical, system and metallurgical problems arising from the above

    Requirements

    Person Specification

    • BSc or B Eng. in Metallurgy with minimum of 6 years’ experience post training (Grade 5) and 2 years post training (Grade 7)
    • Knowledge of steel/stainless steel product and/or Smelting/Refining of other materials
    • Working experience in heavy/large manufacturing processes related to Steel manufacturing, quality    assurance and control, project management
    • Experience with POLC principles and QCDSM

    Senior Administrator: Contracts (Grade 8) (CLOSING DATE: 14 January 2024)

    Description

    • Identification, compilation and implementation of appropriate agreements through liaison with internal clients, the Legal Department and Suppliers (local and foreign).                                                                                                                             
    • Daily processing of Purchase Requests to Purchase Orders.
    •  Sourcing of the correct items/services by identifying potential Suppliers approved to supply items or provide services and requesting them to quote on provided scope of work or item description.                                                                              
    • Sourcing of potential Suppliers that can supply items or provide services and requesting them to quote on provided scope of work or item description.
    • Evaluation and adjudication of quotations submitted by Suppliers

    Requirements

    • Knowledge of BBBEE
    • Min of 2 years Administrative experience which included purchasing
    • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively
    • Accuracy and good attention to detail
    • Professionalism and good business communication skills (verbal and written)
    • Ability to interact with senior management in Columbus and at Suppliers
    • Ability to analyze scenarios and find the best solution
    • An ability to stay calm and tactful under pressure
