    Lecturer/Senior Lecturer (Inorganic Chemistry)

    Requirements for this position include:

    For appointment at Lecturer level:

    • A PhD in the field of inorganic chemistry, followed by at least 2 years of postdoctoral experience in a research environment.
    • A research track record that demonstrates experience and productivity in the field.

    Advantageous at Lecturer level:

    • Success in securing external research funding.
    • Some university level teaching experience in inorganic chemistry.
    • Some post graduate supervision experience.

    For appointment at Senior Lecturer Level:

    • A PhD in the field of inorganic chemistry, followed by at least 2 years of postdoctoral experience in a research environment.
    • Experience in teaching inorganic chemistry at undergraduate level and an ability to contribute to course development.
    • Supervision of postgraduate students at Honours, Masters and/or PhD level;
    • A research track record that demonstrates experience and productivity in the field (publication in peer reviewed inorganic chemistry journals as senior author)
    • Success in securing external research funding.
    • Contributions to administration management and leadership.

    Advantageous at Senior Lecturer level:

    • Evidence of Social responsiveness and Engaged Scholarship.
    • Evidence of international networks.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Develop a strong research programme, in inorganic chemistry.
    • Develop and teach courses at an appropriate level, in the sub-discipline of inorganic chemistry at both introductory and senior undergraduate level (including service courses) and deliver specialist lectures at the Honours (4th year) level.
    • Supervise Honours, MSc and PhD, students, as appropriate.
    • Contribute to the administration of the Department at an appropriate level, and Faculty of Science through committee work.

    Fees Coordinator

    Requirements:

    • NQF 5 - Diploma or advanced Certificate in Administration;
    • 5 years' experience in a similar role;
    • Demonstrable experience in human resource/people management;
    • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word;
    • High level of proficiency in PeopleSoft or a similar ERP system;
    • Attention to detail;
    • Proven high level analytical and interpretive abilities;
    • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to establish priorities;
    • Excellent oral and written skills;
    • Ability to exercise judgement and work with minimal supervision;
    • An ability to interact successfully with individuals across various levels, within and external to the organization especially students and parents;
    • A commitment to the provision of excellent client service in a cross-cultural environment;

    • Excellent knowledge of UCT Fees Policies and USFed Aid Policies; and

    Responsibilities (Key performance areas):

    • International Fees Administration - Ensuring that Administration of International Fees are compliant with UCT policies;
    • Occasional and SSA Fees Administration - Ensuring that both Occasional and SSA Fees are correctly recorded in PeopleSoft to allow for integration to SAP;
    • USFED Aid Fees Administration - Ensuring that we remain compliant with USFED Aid policies while managing the administration of loans;
    • System Improvements - Proactive in recognizing opportunities for improvement in processes; and
    • Resource Management - Management of Fees Officers.

    Psychologist - Student Wellness Service

    Requirements:

    • Relevant NQF Level 9 Masters Qualification
    • Current registration with the HPCSA as a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist
    • Two years of experience as a practicing psychologist.
    • Good interpersonal skills and work ethic
    • Personal accountability and commitment to the students as clients.
    • Strong interest in, and an empathic attitude to working with students.
    • Flexibility and adaptability to a variety of presenting problems
    • Must be able to work within a multidisciplinary team.
    • Must be able to cope with working under pressure in a context that is demanding.
    • Skills and sensitivity to engage students on matters of mental health in forums and similar settings.

    Advantageous:

    • Counselling/therapeutic experience in a Higher Education environment
    • Fluency in one or more indigenous languages

    Responsibilities:

    • Participate effectively in a responsive service that is student-centered, transformative, and aligned to a Primary Health Care orientation and philosophy in the delivery of mental health services.
    • Providing solutions and innovation in the provision of mental health services through the Student Wellness Service (SWS)
    • Manage time accordingly and produce quality work as per the professional board’s regulations.
    • Planning, coordinating, and participating in mental health promotion activities of the team as delegated.
    • Assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of students presenting with psychological, psychosocial and/or psychiatric problems as guided by the professional board’s scope of practice.
    • Referring to other members of the multidisciplinary team as and when a need arises
    • Participating in policy work and other activities aimed at the development and promotion of mental health of the UCT student community.
    • Promoting mental health/psychosocial education, awareness, and related life-skills programs in line with Student Wellness Service (SWS) objectives
    • Facilitating admission where necessary; in case of mental health/psychiatric emergencies at SWS, to an appropriate hospital / health service facility
    • Co-ordinating and/or participating in various portfolios or projects that are set up in the SWS.
    • Assisting other colleagues when needed and displaying good, sound teamwork skills.

    Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor: Physics (Science)

    Requirements at Lecturer Level:

    • A PhD in Physics, or equivalent;
    • A relevant research track record in experimental high energy particle/nuclear physics; with two years post PhD experience;
    • An ability to teach at both introductory and senior undergraduate level (including service courses and undergraduate laboratories) and give specialist lectures at Honours (4th year) level.

    Additional requirements at Senior Lecturer Level:

    • Teaching experience at the tertiary level, and experience in ability to contribute to curriculum development;
    • Successful supervision of postgraduate students at Honours, Masters and/or PhD level;
    • A relevant research track record that demonstrates recognition, experience (e.g. postdoctoral, industry), productivity and creativity;
    • Success in the solicitation of funding for research;
    • Experience in departmental-level administration (or equivalent).

    Additional requirements at Associate Professor Level:

    • Extensive high-quality teaching experience;
    • Involvement and innovation in academic curriculum development;
    • Successful supervision experience at both the Masters and PhD level;
    • International recognition and leadership in a relevant research area within experimental high energy particle/nuclear physics;
    • Active contribution to Faculty/University-level administration.

    Responsibilities at all levels:

    • Contribute strongly to teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses;
    • Develop own research programme within ALICE, with appropriate training and supervision of postgraduate students;
    • Lead the ALICE group at UCT;
    • Contribute to the well-being of the department;
    • Contribute to administration at a rank-appropriate level.
