    Head of Boarding

    Main Responsibilities

    • To ensure that the overall pastoral care and supervision of the Boarders is of a very high standard. To ensure that all staff working in the boarding houses comply with the Health and Safety policy and all other appropriate procedures of the school.

    Head of Boarding Accountabilities:

     Pastoral Care of the Boarders

    • To ensure that there is adequate supervision of the boarding houses.
    • To ensure that all staff act in accordance with and apply the school rules.
    • To ensure that any complaints are dealt with promptly and reported appropriately.
    • To ensure the successful induction of all new Boarders joining the house.
    • To provide a sympathetic presence in the boarding house and to be sensitive to those who are having difficulties adapting to boarding life or school.
    • To be responsible for the welfare and promote the happiness of Borders.
    • To oversee everyday discipline of the girls and boys in the boarding houses in accordance with the Code of Conduct to ensure that all boarders are treated fairly and consistently.
    • To initiate and participate in activities for the Boarders throughout the week and to facilitate the involvement of all Boarders and staff in Boarding and school activities.

     Operational Expertise & Resource Management

    • Assuming responsibility for coordinating and managing the activity calendar for each year.
    • Ensuring there is a stimulating and varied programme of Boarding, extra-curricular and weekend activities.
    • Monitoring the health of the students in the Boarding House in conjunction with the school nurse/matron.
    • Maintaining complete records of all activities involving Boarding House students, Health and Social Wellbeing issues and parent involvement.
    • Administering and be responsible for all aspects of Student Boarding House life.
    • Establish and maintain safety precautions within the Student Boarding House especially in relation to excursions off campus.
    • Maintaining a database of student contact information and student academic and behavioural records as they relate to both the Student Boarding House and the school.
    • Taking an active role in the Student Boarding House improvement initiatives.
    • Raising the profile of the Student Boarding House through organising events and initiatives.
    • Knowing both Student Boarding House and school policies and can answer everyday queries of parents.
    • Helping in other areas of the school as directed.

     Administration

    • To be aware and acknowledgeable of all Boarding Policies and standards and always put them into practice.
    • To liaise with Houseparents and their assistants regarding Boarders’ trips and activities
    • To ensure that all trips have been planned in accordance with Health and Safety and pupil, staff ratios.
    • To organise transport and all meals as required during the week, weekend and holidays.
    • To ensure all handbook and website details are up to date.
    • To Collect and Collate information for the Boarders’ newsletter each month and to pass on to named individuals for publication.

    Teaching And Learning Assistant

    Purpose of Position

    • To reduce administrative tasks on the T&L team in order to use their time on academic specific outputs and in turn positively impacting the success rate and graduation rate.

    Position Description
    KPA / Main Outputs and Responsibilities for this Position

    Detailed Description

    Administration  (50%)

    • Filing of lecturer/ student consultations
    • Peer review documentation and administration 
    • Assist and support in material issuing and collecting for lecturers (lecturer resource pack, lecturer handbook, access tag, notebook,stationery).
    • Ordering stationery for lecturers. 
    • Ensuring the timetable is issued to OPS for capturing purposes on CAMS.  
    • Compiling and coordinating assignment due dates in association with PC and OPS team.
    • Administrative duties relating to Lecturer/ Student Orientation and any other student support workshops offered by the T&L (feedback forms, registers etc.).
    • Agenda setting, minute of meetings (Academic Committee Meeting).

    2)      Event Management
         (10%)

    • With the support and input from the PM/HOA arranges and  coordinates T&L events such as, Lecturer and student Orientation, HoP visits, Directors Visit, Pulse visit, Celebrating T&L, Top     Achievers Awards, CAT and CSO visits.                  
    • Manages and coordinates bookings of venues; Coordinates catch up/master/ booster session schedules as per information received             from PM/HOA
    • Graduation RSVP’s for lecturers (academic regalia, attendance, seating arrangements).

    3)      Data Handling (data input and output)          (20%)

    • Keep trackers updated 
    • Student intervention tracker

    Research tracker

    • Lecturer development tracker
    • Internal moderation tracker
    • Capturing of RCLearn hours as per RCLearn reports
    • Assist with SETS admin (opening of links, pulling reports) 

    4)      IC Administration      (15%)
          
    Printing of claims 

    • Getting lecturer availability from lecturers for timetabling
    • Issuing of timetables to lecturers once available
    • Lecturer availability for consultations
    • Creating lecturer profile on APS
    • Uploading of documents on APS (qualifications, ID etc.)

    5)      Management of T&L Resources    (5%)
             (5%)

    • Checking of venue readiness (whiteboard, proxima, air conditioning, tables, and chairs).
    • Ensuring venue sizes are correct as per timetable

    Part Time Lecturer- Bachelor of Education

    Job Purpose:

    • The purpose of the lecturer position involves the training and education of students; student consultations; the establishment of a knowledge base of the discipline through academic research & development and providing support to the Academic Development Consultants.

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Lecturing: Lecture and facilitate Student Support workshops and subject-specific tutorials as required.
    • Teaching and Learning Support.
    • Develop teaching & learning capacity and standards on campus by assisting the Academic Development Co-ordinator and contract lecturers.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • School Teaching experience in the Early Childhood Development, Foundation Phase or Intermediate Phase (3 years)
    • Lecturing experience 1 – 3 years (Ideal)

    Programme Academic Lead - Commerce

    Job Purpose:

    • The Online Programme Coordinator is responsible and accountable for the overall effective and efficient academic student support, success, and retention rates of RC Distance students within designated programmes. Additional responsibility relates to the support of the IIE learning strategies to promote student engagement and success. Support/ lecturing may be provided outside normal working hours as the norm in distance education.

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    Lecturing

    • Lecturing at least one module to a minimum of 2 groups online.
    • Lesson preparation, marking and moderation as
    • Keeping records of all work and submit to line manager/ as required
    • May be after normal working hours

    Research

    • Research commitment of an action research project dealing with Online related topics and or innovation in the distance delivery mode. At least one Academic article in a given academic year is the minimum research requirement.

    Lecturer Support

    • Conduct Peer Reviews
    • Assist in development plans, monitoring, reporting and remediation (if necessary) for independent tutors
    • Holding sectional subject matter workshops as determined by the line manager
    • Attending to and providing continuous support at risk student and other referrals
    • Support LMS navigation and attendant innovations
    • Monitor student progress on LMS
    • Assist in module monitoring and provide regular written reports
    • Review Independent Contractor assessment practices
    • Ensuring Independent Contractors/ tutors have all needed resources

    Student Support

    • Conduct student Orientation, Conducting on boarding activities for students,
    • Conduct student Development Workshops (Plagiarism; Study Skills, Numeracy and Literacy Skills, etc.);
    • Plan and facilitate peer engagement sessions; Create study communities for students; Arrange motivational sessions
    • Monitor student engagement identify and support at risk students; Monitor student progress; Communicate curriculum to students
    • Analyse and track student performance and implement appropriate interventions.
    • Identify and implement interventions for At-Risk
    • Integrate student support services on the Learning Management system (LMS) or RCLearn
    • Coordinate WIL sessions and track academic progress and submission of Portfolio of Evidence. 
    • Initiate Disciplinary Enquiries/Hearings as per need.

    • Conduct Surveys and provide report/s among the students covering service, module and tutor feedback or any other feedback mechanism as required.

    Independent Contractor Lecturer - Hospitality and Events Management

    PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THIS JOB:

    • To teach, share and ignite a passion for the hospitality industry within eager young students helping them to grow individually and mature in their careers within the hospitality industry. The incumbent will be responsible for the overall teaching and learning activities, and additional relevant academic activities in support of a positive student experience, and in furtherance of the brand’s academic standing.

    KEY RESULTS AREA:

    • Coordinating, mentoring and assisting students with respect to theory and practical studies and cultivation of the individual creative spirit.
    • Development of teaching material, including – but not limited to – presentation slides, videos, written feedback
    • Timeous delivery of student feedback – both in written and verbal formats, and in person and through the LMS
    • Overall grading and accurate recording of all formal assessments on all platforms
    • Participation in cross-marking whenever necessary
    • Completion of moderation collateral, and loading of scripts onto the moderation platforms
    • Tracking of student performance, and implementation of relevant interventions
    • Managing student discipline and formal correspondence relating to student discipline

    Implementation of and adherence to policies and processes as set out by legislation, accreditation

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

    • MA/ MSC in Hospitality or Tourism Management, with Accounting module
    • NQF level 7/8 Accounting or Business Management qualification

    EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:

    • Minimum of 3-5 years’ relevant practical industry experience in Hospitality or Tourism industry
    • Minimum of 2 years’ lecturing/ teaching experience

    SKILLS REQUIREMENT:

    • Proficiency in Learner Management Systems such as Blackboard, Canvas, Brightspace
    • An ability to interact positively with students, colleagues, parents and sponsors
    • An ability to communicate well at all levels
    • Good understanding of all legislation relevant to education and training within hospitality industry
    • An appreciation of the hospitality and food service industry
    • Proficient in related computer software and strong admin ability
