    Environment Sustainability and Climate Action Intern

    Job Description:

    The intern will work closely with the Technical Director of Southern Africa Environment Sustainability and Climate Action to assist the Southern Africa Regional Office in incorporating environment and climate action into various initiatives, operations, and projects throughout the organization.  ​

    • Support strategic integration of Environmental Sustainability and Climate Action (ESCA) across World Vision functional areas of National Offices
    • Assist ESCA lead in Profiling and documenting ESCA best practices across the WV Southern Africa 9 countries for upscaling and donor grants prepositioning
    • Support National Offices work on reducing carbon footprint on environmentally sustainable operations through Green Teams
    • Support the climate action advocacy work by facilitating, identification and profiling of climate champions across National Offices
    • Support external engagement work in the climate space including UNFCCC process, UN Ecosystem Decade Restoration, and other strategic donors in climate finance.
    • Attend staff meetings, staff retreats, staff trainings, and external meetings as required; and

    Regional Capability Lead for Risk and Investigations, SAR

    Regional Strategic Risk and Stakeholder engagement

    • Spearhead quarterly regional strategic risk review by comparing recurrent risks with emerging risks taking into account changes in the environment, political and economic changes
    • Compile analytical reports from EthicsPoint, Risk Connect, and other systems for a holistic view of incident management and trends across the region
    • Equip National Office regional risk oversight committees to conceptualize and communicate risk management trends that are strategic, operational, functional, and legal to national Office senior leadership team
    • Incident & Investigation Management Capability strengthening
    • Provide regional quarterly training on incident reporting, Incident Management principles and practices as well as the usage of the Incident Management system, Risk Connect, Integrity and Protection Hotline
    • Ensure that incidents and investigations are analyzed and relevant Lessons Learned, and After-Action Reviews, are applied, reducing the likelihood and impact of repeat incidents.
    • Coordinate investigations in response to incidents, allegations, and complaints with relevant functional owners (i.e. P&C, GIIU, Safeguarding)
    • Ensure assigned investigations are conducted legally, ethically, on a timely and cost-effective basis, and in compliance with relevant policies and regulations.
    • Review the investigative capacity of relevant functions in each national office across the Southern Africa region and provide recommendations to the regional leadership team
    • Provide technical guidance, on-the-job training, coaching, and mentoring to newly certified investigators in P&C, Safeguarding
    • Liaise with WV global partnership stakeholders on specific cases ensuring they are kept informed of case progression as necessary.
    • Promote a regional risk culture and compliance strengthening 
    • Provide technical guidance to senior leadership teams in the development, review and implementation of NO risk management strategies
    • Strengthen the capacity of NO risk management committees to ensure mechanisms in all NOs are strategically aligned and in alignment with the WVI Enterprise Risk Management
    • Framework and WV’s Risk Appetite Statement
    • Spearhead the design of frontline staff learning programmes and staff campaign materials to support World Vision risk awareness culture and strengthen a child-safe organization taking into account language, program size, and context
    • Lead the monitoring, and reporting of recurrent findings, and weaknesses in internal controls through audit, investigation, and program quality reports and ensure quarterly reports are developed and shared with the regional leadership team

    Required Education, training, license, registration, and certification

    • Minimum seven years of risk management, audit, organizational effectiveness, quality assurance experience in International Organizations (risk and data analysis, grant quality and compliance) out of these years, 3 (three) are in senior management roles in large international organizations in Africa or low developing contexts.
    •  In addition, 2 to 3 years professional experience in investigation, auditing, research, law and/or project management. 
    • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Accounting, Criminal Justice, Finance, or a related field. 
    • Professional training on investigations and or crisis management
    • Excellent knowledge of INGO risk management practices
    • Excellent investigation, research, analytical skills
    • Demonstrated experience in strategic risk analysis, management, monitoring and reporting
    • Excellent Leadership, stakeholder engagement and influencing senior leadership teams, matrix functional leads 
    • Excellent facilitation, negotiation, coordination and networking skills at all levels
    • Performance history in strengthening organizational capacity in risk, data analytics, organizational effectiveness
    • Ability to manage stress and utilize emotional intelligence
    • Digital dexterity, and in-depth computer knowledge including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
    • Excellent presentation and communication skills

    Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications

    • A master's degree in commerce, finance, management or a similar field
    • Completion of a law enforcement investigation training program, CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CIA (Certified Internal Auditor) or CA (Chartered Accountant) and or CFE  (Certified Fraud Examiner)   
    • Certified Fraud examiner (CFE), Investigation Certification from a law enforcement agency
    • Fluency in, French or Portuguese
    • Knowledge of the WVI business and management systems is preferan

    Regional Safeguarding Lead

    Safeguarding Culture Transformation, Building and Leadership

    • Actively support and contribute to building a culture of safeguarding, where staff are informed and empowered to discuss key issues, report, and take action on safeguarding violations.
    • Deliver quality assurance for safeguarding across regions, incl. monitoring performance of safeguarding KPIs.  Brief the RD and CDs on state of safeguarding in the region and advise on required interventions. Monitor accessibility and effectiveness of reporting channels, risk, compliance gaps, incident trends, impact, and learning.  
    • Regularly (at least quarterly) interface with Regional Risk Management Lead in order to build common understanding of safeguarding risks, and to support the region to pursue holistic risk management.
    • Build collaborative working relationships with FO Safeguarding Focal Points and other relevant staff in Field Offices and GC for the effective functioning of safeguarding in FOs.
    • Provide FO and SARO teams with key messages and resources that enable them to build a healthy culture of safeguarding.
    • Develop and document a plan with SARO and FO leadership that articulates specific actions the SDO, SMT, SLTs and other managers will take to create and nurture a safeguarding culture, incorporate into Safeguarding Action Plans.
    • In partnership with the regional communications and external engagement team, develop regional external engagement plan to position WV as a thought leader in the safeguarding space.

    Safeguarding Incident Management 

    • Support and encourage Field Offices (FOs) to report L3/L2 incidents in Ethics Point.
    • Support the WVI Safeguarding Unit to clarify and manage new incidents reported in Ethics Point and within one business day to set up global incident management call (so that the call can be held within 72 hours).
    • Conduct regular follow up with FOs on open safeguarding cases to ensure agreed actions are completed expeditiously, including but not limited to review of investigation plans, referrals of survivor support, completion of investigation reports, and disciplinary action of implicated staff.
    • Ensure L3 incidents are ready to close within 60 days and L2s within 30 days or agree with WVI Safeguarding Unit if more time is needed.
    • Regularly review Ethics point and support FOs to ensure all incidences are successfully closed within 90 days.
    • Follow-up on after action items identified during incident management to continuously strengthen FO safeguarding practices.

    Safeguarding Capacity Building

    • Train and mentor new FO Safeguarding Focal Points on safeguarding policies, protocols and practices, including incident management process.

    Engage, coach, support and build capacity of existing country safeguarding functional leads

    • Hands-on functional management of safeguarding leads in country across 4 pillars – prevention, awareness, reporting, response
    • Pro-active talent management in partnership with NDs and P&C Directors
    • Inspire and build capacity
    • Actively seek out development opportunities for country leads, incl. secondments and deployments in the region and globally in partnership with global safeguarding team

    Engage, coach, support and build capacity of regional office staff

    • Train SARO staff on safeguarding and provide periodic refresher trainings to ensure Safeguarding culture is in place.
    • Lead safeguarding orientation and messaging for all SARO vendors to strengthen safeguarding culture
    • Ensure safeguarding training has been coordinated for RO staff and affiliates (eCampus basic online safeguarding course online or face-to-face or virtually).

    Director, Talent Acquisition

    Strategic Leadership and Planning

    • Successfully lead the WVI Talent Acquisition (TA) team, ensuring that the TA team structure and strategy best support the organisation in meeting the goals of Our Promise, World Vision’s long-term global strategy.
    • Serve as a member of the People & Culture Leadership Forum (PCLF), senior World Vision HR leaders across the globe.
    • Lead the TA team in strategic and tactical talent acquisition planning sessions with key client groups and business partners to meet department, team and individual work goals.
    • Continuously work on improving service delivery measured through client and new employee customer satisfaction surveys.
    • Develop initiatives to turn WVI into a “hiring culture” where every employee is empowered to bring great talent to the organisation and is equipped with tools to do so.
    • Create a supportive and unifying team culture in a virtual, multi-cultural environment.  Meet and surpass People & Culture (P&C) and World Vision averages for employee engagement as evidenced by Our Voice employee survey results.
    • Ensure that the TA team is properly staffed and trained to quickly recruit for major Emergency Response programs (e.g., Ukraine Crisis Response, Syria Refugee Crisis) while also meeting other on-going talent needs for the organisation.   
    • Ensures that strong talent pipelines are created for all key clients of the organisation.
    • Serve as liaison to and take responsibility for the selection of external search firms as needed.  Maintain a roster of fully vetted firms that can assist across multiple sectors (e.g., Senior Executive, IT, and INGO leaders).
    • Be intentional in positioning the WVI TA as a Centre of Expertise within the World Vision Partnership and seek ways to collaborate more with peers of other WV offices.
    • Serve as a thought leader within the Christian INGO community.

    Team Development & Leadership

    • Lead, mentor, and coach the Talent Acquisition team, providing support for individual and team growth and development.
    • Develop and maintain multiple channels and networks within the WV Partnership to build a deep, diverse understanding for the TA team on local contexts in which WV offices work to ensure compliance with local recruitment practices and legal requirements.
    • Be intentional in identifying and developing required technical on-the-job skills in the Talent Acquisition team.
    • Establish Individual Development Plans that are evident for enhancing TA team members’ career growth, engagement, and retention.
    • Support the TA team through leading team change and continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Provide guidance to P&C colleagues supporting Talent Acquisition processes around Partnership Recruitment policies and processes.
    • Ensure full compliance that all new applicable hires have gone through Misconduct Disclosure Scheme (MDS) protocol.
    • Coordinate with the P&C Operations Support team and local hiring office to ensure appropriate orientation and on boarding programmes are in place for all new recruits.
    • Discern candidate cultural fit by using your mature Christian faith, utilising basic doctrinal knowledge, to meet WVI Board expectations in the hiring of Christian leaders. Provide training for TA managers and staff as needed in this critical skill.

    International, Global, and Regional Recruitment: Senior Leadership roles

    • At times, work with our Executive Recruiter and executive recruiting team for senior World Vision roles. Conduct thorough position briefs/intake meetings with hiring managers for recruitment of all managed positions.
    • Identify, vet and serve as point of contact with external search firms engaged by WVI and WV Support Offices to ensure WV recruiting protocols, employment branding and faith compatibility requirements of candidates are met.
    • Conduct recruitment responsibilities in a professional, service-oriented, responsive, innovative, ethical and cost-effective manner in accordance with WVI goals and Christian principles.
    • Utilise recruitment tools to ensure consistent, timely, and accurate data entry and management.
    • Interview candidates, combining various methods (e.g., structured interviews, technical assessments, observation, and behavioural assessments) to ensure the best candidate is appointed into a role.
    • Negotiate offer of employment with selected candidates, guiding line managers and leadership as appropriate.
    • Promote the organisation’s reputation as a great place to work for Christian humanitarian professionals and senior for-profit experts with transferable skills. Also serve as WVI and VisionFund’s brand ambassador through the recruitment process,

    Stakeholder Management, Customer Service and Workforce Planning

    • Coordinate with WVI, Regional and National Office leaders to assess, plan and forecast for hiring needs.
    • Define metrics and recruitment analytics in order to influence decision making.
    • Partner with finance and business leaders to make long term organisation hiring decision based on defined metrics.
    • Help in supporting leaders in creating diversity sourcing and recruitment strategy as appropriate for specialized work contexts, especially fragile contexts.
    • Develop, build and maintain relationships with global P&C Directors to help support the consistent implementation of international recruitment policies, with particular emphasis on International Assignees Compensation, Benefits, and Total Rewards approaches.
    • Attend client meetings (both in-person and virtually, as requested) and brief senior staff on sourcing and recruiting efforts.
    • Lead the development and implementation of a diversity sourcing and recruitment strategy for all regions and supporting Global Centre departments.
    • Maintain strong talent pipelines based on client needs, with particular focus on National Director, Disaster Management and Grant Acquisition Management (GAM) roles.

    Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

    • 10+ years’ Talent Acquisition work experience, preferably in both the INGO and for-profit sector.
    • Mature Christian faith, knowledge of basic Christian doctrine.
    • 7+ years’ experience in recruitment of leadership, managerial and professional technical positions across multiple countries and cultures.
    • Previous executive recruitment experience. 
    • Proven experience of effectively leading a virtual Talent Acquisition team.
    • Proven knowledge of common HR and TA policies and the ability to effectively problem solve cross culturally.
    • At least 5 years’ experience in full-cycle recruiting, sourcing, and employment branding, primarily within a global or multinational context.
    • Extensive knowledge and skills with social media sourcing tools and networking skills to connect with talent across many different sectors.
    • Successful skills and ability to prioritise effectively and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced and ever-changing multinational organisation. 
    • A deep understanding and passion for recruitment, aware of the latest trends and global talent market.
    • Proficiency with enterprise applicant tracking systems (similar to Workday), Microsoft Office, MS Teams and internet recruiting and sourcing.
    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent is required as a minimum.
    • A Master’s degree, MBA in human resources, or equivalent work experience is preferred.
    • Extensive experience utilising Topgrading selection methodology (preferred) and/or behavioural interviewing (e.g., Targeted Selection).
    • Solutions-oriented with strong problem-solving and follow-up skills. 
    • A self-starter who is driven to find the best candidates for positions and who can work in an environment with minimal supervision.
    • A strong team player and collaborator who is able to effectively network amongst all work levels, both within and outside the organisation.
    • Strong interpersonal, negotiation communication skills (both written and oral).
    • A proven track record of providing exceptional customer service.
    • Experience in planning and forecasting workforce staffing needs, including pipelining.
    • Digital savviness in recruitment technology, including experience tracking recruitment metrics and developing strategies to improve outcomes.  
    • Expertise in advanced talent sourcing and candidate communication.
    • Confident in advising and partnering with business partners, hiring managers, and other stakeholders including senior leadership.
    • An experienced leader who works to improve their spiritual maturity and that of others.
    • The position requires the ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 15% of the time. 
    • The position required flexibility to accommodate clients (candidates and leaders) in different time zones for scheduling meetings and supporting various recruitment outcomes.

    Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Experience

    • Strong relationships and referral networks within the INGO sector.
    • Certification/training in internet recruiting and sourcing.
    • Experience living/working in fragile contexts.
    • Experience with RPO and GEO sourcing firms preferred.
    • Experience using Workday as an applicant tracking system.
    • Second language such as Arabic, French, Spanish or Portuguese is highly desirable.
