    Heavy Duty Driver

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Grade 12

    Minimum Experience:

    • 3 years’ experience as an operator/ heavy duty driver
    • Code C/EC1/EC Licence (previous Code 10/11/14)
    • A Valid Public Driver’s Permit (PDP)
    • Experienced heavy-duty driver
    • Valid TLB / digger-loader certificate from accredited provider
    • Proof of training in operation of High-Up
    • Proof of training in operation of forklift or truck-mounted crane
    • Proof of training in operation of mini excavator

    Key Outputs:
    Reporting to the Foreman, the appointee will:

    • Operate a TLB, mini excavator, and truck mounted crane to remove burst pipes, dig and refill trenches for bulk pipelines, reservoirs and chambers to assist with the effective and efficient repair and/ or construction of new work as applicable, pipes, chemicals, heavy pumps
    • Operate a forklift to load and off load goods and equipment
    • Transport dangerous goods and implement dangerous goods procedures
    • Drive a 14-ton rollback, 8 ton rollback, 10 ton water tanker, tipper truck and trailer and 10 ton truck to deliver TLB, mini excavator, chlorine, sand, stone and pipes to various wastewater and potable water treatment works and network etc. as applicable
    • Dig trenches and manholes for the construction of new pipelines, reservoirs, cables, ducts, works and repair existing trenches
    • Clean trenches and holes for easy laying and alignment of pipes and concrete structures and planting of poles and markers
    • Repair fences where construction/maintenance of pipelines caused damage
    • Perform necessary maintenance and repairs to ensure good condition
    • Isolate and drain pipelines out before digging trenches
    • Monitor that hand tools are not misused or used in a dangerous way
    • Make sure lifting equipment is in a good condition before attempts are made to lift equipment
    • Use correct lifting techniques to safely remove damaged pipes, plant and equipment
    • Carry out reasonable and lawful instructions as given by the line manager/supervisor within the ambit of the position taking into consideration competencies and operational requirements

    Institutional Social Development Facilitator

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • National Diploma in organisational development / business administration or social sciences or any related field.
    • Three (3) years’ experience in social facilitation and training or related field.

    Minimum Experience:

    • Three (3) years post graduate experience as a social facilitator on infrastructure projects in both urban and rural communities. Communication skills and stakeholder engagement experience.

     Key Outputs:

    Maintenance Foreman

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Qualified Artisan (Electrical/ Millwright) with Trade Test Certificate

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • National Diploma Engineering (Electrical)

    Minimum Experience:

    • At least 5 years (post trade test) general maintenance experience gained in a production environment preferably in water and wastewater treatment works.

    Key Outputs:
    Reporting to the Area Operations Manager, the appointee will:

    • Monitor the execution of electrical, mechanical and civil work allocated by visiting the work sites, attending relevant site meetings, attending to problems which might arise, providing technical expertise and assess the quality of completed work
    • Co-ordinate repairs and maintenance to all electrical, mechanical and civil equipment by daily liaison with artisans and utility men to ensure optimum efficiency
    • Co-ordinate and meet with contractors and service providers for specialised maintenance services
    • Evaluate Artisans monthly breakdown reports and utilisation and report to Area Operations Manager
    • Identify plant, equipment requiring major maintenance, costing and planning thereof to ensure optimum efficiency
    • Respond to specific requests for maintenance and assisting in the preparation of specifications for repairs by carrying out inspections, assessing and recommending action
    • Determine which specialised spares and equipment are necessary for stock purposes considering lead times and delivery times and ensuring such spares are ordered to minimise plant outage time
    • Verify that all ordered spares are of the correct quality and quantity to minimise plant outage time
    • Identify and ensure all staff are adequately trained with respect to applicable safety regulations in order to create safety awareness amongst staff
    • Ensure that all High Voltage work is performed by suitably trained and qualified Amatola staff, Artisans and contractors
    • Assist with identifying and prioritizing of minor projects and refurbishments within the maintenance section to ensure correct work allocation and expenditure
    • Control all the maintenance sections budgeted expenditure as well as motivating and documenting over expenditure for accurate cost control
    • Supervise the manpower utilisation and section requirements ensuring the correct staff compliment within the maintenance section
    • Appraise and counselling staff in the section through the organisations performance reviewing policy to increase performance outputs
    • Monitor and evaluate work undertaken by contractors and authorize payment
    • Carry out reasonable and lawful instructions as given by the line manager/supervisor within the ambit of the position taking into consideration competencies and operational requirements

    Sampling Officer

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry/Microbiology/Biotechnology/Water Care/Quality Management 

    Minimum Experience:

    • 3 years Sampling experience on water sampling methods with knowledge of sampling procedures and protocols. Must be familiar with laboratory information management systems and general laboratory duties.

    Key Outputs:
    Reporting to the Quality Officer, the appointee will:

    • Conduct sampling to ensure that the minimum frequencies as detailed in the SANS 241 specifications for sampling are met
    • Prepare monthly sampling schedule to ensure frequencies are met.
    • Schedule and log the samples for different water works to ensure compliance with Blue/Green Drop is requirement
    • Conduct ad hoc field analyses to ensure that all frequencies for the measurement of water quality parameters
    • Conduct analysis such as chlorine analysis, turbidity and pH using potable pH, turbidity and chlorine meters
    • Assist with general laboratory duties
    • Ensure that vehicle is maintained (in the event of sampling) to effect vehicle longevity and safety
    • Inspect the vehicle for roadworthiness before driving off
    • Use the provided checklist for inspection
    • Ensure the allocated vehicle is clean

    Senior Buyer

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • National Diploma in Supply Chain Management, Purchasing Management, Public Procurement or Equivalent

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • B Com degree in Supply Chain Management, Purchasing Management, Public Procurement or Equivalent

    Civil Design Engineer

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • BSc. / B Eng. / B Tech in Civil Engineering

    Professional Registration:

    • Professional Registration with ECSA either as Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) or Professional Engineering Technologist (Pr. Tech Eng.)

    Minimum Experience:

    • Two years’ design experience in the civil engineering field for water related projects
    • Four years’ experience in the engineering field, mainly in the water industry.

    • Lead the detailed analysis and design processes for projects by applying in-depth knowledge regarding the principles and standards of civil and structural engineering
    • Identify and implement appropriate data collection for the analysis stage of projects
    • Apply sound engineering principles to analyse collected data
    • Lead the detailing and specification of engineering solutions for projects conforming to the relevant SANS guidelines
    • Produce detailed layout drawings and schedules for structural work in projects

    Project Manager Level 2

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • BSc / B Tech Civil Engineering (NQF 7)

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • National Diploma (NQF Level 6) , a Degree (NQF Level 7 ) or a post graduate Diploma in Project Management.

    Professional Registration

    • Professionally Registered with ECSA or SACPCMP , PMSA or PMI

    Minimum Experience:

    • Minimum 8 years’ experience in the Infrastructure Environment
    • 8 years’ Project Management experience with a proven track record in managing high level projects, project management skills (best project management practices) in terms of managing matrix structures, multi-disciplinary and multi projects.
    • Experience in water infrastructure environment, will be an added advantage.

    Key Outputs:
    Reporting to the Senior Manager Special Programmes, the employee will:

    • Manage the approval process of the project charter and contract
    • Develop tender document specifications
    • Liaise with Supply Chain Management (SCM) with regard to the publication of tender documents
    • Initiate and Manage Feasibility studies to ensure high accuracy and transparency during the adjudication of the results
    • Co-ordinate project needs with the Infrastructure Development Plan
    • Initiate and monitor GIS inputs for all feasibility studies
    • Costing and budgeting of projects to ensure that adequate funding is available for construction
    • Study feasibility reports carefully and make detailed recommendations regarding accuracy and quality of work done by consultants
    • Prepare internal costing of projects
    • Project manage all construction phases of the project to ensure that construction is correct and to specification are and to ensure that corrections can be made timeously
    • Study the project stages in detail to ensure a good understanding of the critical construction issues
    • Confirm that construction is in line with the initial goal of the project
    • Prepare a quality control plan
    • Attend all technical and progress meetings
    • Manage consultant activity
    • Prepare regular progress reports for the CEO and Department of Water and Sanitation
    • Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) to ensure that Amatola Water’s projects adhere to the regulations of the relevant Acts
    • Identify projects and actions, which may damage the environment
    • Know and understand the National Environmental Management Act
    • Confirm that projects conform to the environmental legislation
    • Management to ensure that resources are used according to maximum potential
    • Management of technical staff per project basis
    • Co-ordinate projects with other role-players
    • Check staff timesheets for accuracy
