    Underwriting Audit Specialist

    What will you do?

    • A position of Underwriting Audit Specialist exists in Santam Corporate Services to be based in Alice Lane Sandton, Gauteng.
    • The purpose of the Audit Specialist is to a play a significant role in delivering on the Internal Audit Charter, plan and improving the overall governance, risk management and control environment within the Santam Group.
    • This role will therefore form part of the Specialist Underwriting assurance team within the Santam Group Internal Audit function and will be responsible for specific underwriting and/or reinsurance related assurance work in Santam Limited, MiWay, Centriq and Santam Structured Insurance.

    What will make you successful in this role?

    • Perform objective audit reviews within the underwriting processes at Santam Ltd, its subsidiaries, portfolio managers and underwriting agencies.
    • Assist with audit planning in terms of assignment objectives and scope of work. 
    • Responsible for audit execution; reporting in an effective and timely manner and follow-up processes. 
    • Advise on practical recommendations.
    • Follow up on audit issues raised and provide input into the reports to the Santam Audit Committee and other governance structures as required. 
    • Maintain quality standards in terms of the audit methodology, approach and documentation of work performed; and
      building relations with partners and various key stakeholders.
    • Travel nationally will be required from time to time.

    Qualification and Experience

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Internal Audit or equivalent.
    • Advanced Certificate in Short Term Insurance would be advantageous.
    • 5 to 7 years short term insurance knowledge, specifically in corporate and commercial insurance, internal auditing would be advantageous.
    • Working knowledge and understanding of treaty, facultative reinsurance processes and reinsurance accounting would be advantageous.
    • Understanding of an outsourced business model; and experience in performing underwriting and reinsurance reviews would be advantageous.

    Skills

    • Knowledge of personal lines, commercial products, assets all risk policies and other business processes including reinsurance.
    • Working knowledge of legislation, regulations applicable to the financial industry (FAIS, Insurance Act, TCF, POPi) and supporting regulations i.e.: Prudential Authority knowledge of the Governance and Financial Standards of Insurers (GOI and FSI) and FAIS.
    • General knowledge of various insurance software applications and knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint DrawIo) at intermediate or advanced.
    • Facilitation skills and ability to influence individuals, groups and teams.

    Claims Manager- High Net Worth

    WHAT WILL YOU DO?

    • This role is responsible for leading and managing three key functional areas within the Tailored Claims Solution Department: Claims Service Consultants, Claims Administration Support, and Non-Motor Fast Track Assessors, each led by their respective team managers.
    • The position ensures the delivery of a seamless, high-quality claims experience across Motor and Non-Motor portfolios by driving operational excellence, enhancing administrative efficiency, and fostering a high-performance culture.
    • The manager also serves as the primary liaison between Santam and intermediaries, ensuring aligned, responsive service delivery and strong stakeholder engagement.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Leadership & Team Oversight

    • Lead and manage three team managers responsible for Claims Service Consultants, Claims Administration Support, and Non-Motor Fast Track Assessors.
    • Provide strategic direction, coaching, and performance management to ensure alignment with business objectives.
    • Foster a high-performance culture focused on accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

    Operational Excellence

    • Oversee the delivery of claims administration services across Motor and Non-Motor High Net Worth portfolios.
    • Ensure efficient handling of claims processes, adherence to SLAs, and optimisation of workflows.
    • Drive automation and digital enablement to improve turnaround times and reduce manual effort.

    Client Experience & Stakeholder Engagement

    • Ensure the delivery of a seamless, high-quality claims experience across Motor and Non-Motor HNW portfolios.
    • Serve as the primary liaison between Santam and intermediaries, fostering strong relationships and aligned service delivery.
    • Manage escalations and ensure timely, professional resolution of client and broker queries.
    • Build and maintain trusted relationships with internal teams, intermediaries, and external partners to support service excellence.
    • Champion a client-first culture across all claims administration touchpoints.

    Quality, Compliance & Risk Management 

    • Ensure compliance with claims policies, regulatory requirements, and internal controls.
    • Monitor data integrity, documentation standards, and audit readiness.
    • Identify operational risks and implement mitigation strategies.

    Strategic Integration & Innovation

    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align claims administration with broader business initiatives.
    • Support the rollout of new systems, tools, and process enhancements.
    • Contribute to strategic planning and provide insights for continuous improvement. 

    Reporting & Insights

    • Track and report on team performance, service metrics, and operational KPIs.
    • Analyse trends and provide actionable insights to leadership.
    • Support data-driven decision-making and strategic initiatives.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

    • Minimum 5–7 years’ experience in short-term insurance HNW claims (Motor & Non-Motor).
    • 3+ years of experience managing teams and working with intermediaries.
    • Solid understanding of claims processes, policy structures, and short-term insurance legislation.
    • Grade 12 and relevant B-degree or insurance qualification.
    • Budget planning and cost control experience.
    • Knowledge of regulatory requirements (FAIS & POPIA).
    • High emotional intelligence, discretion, and integrity.
