Job description

The Role:

As a BI Engineer, you will participate in planning, developing and maintaining all aspects of the company's ETL (extract, transform, load), Data Warehouse and Analytics infrastructure. You will also deliver high-quality data products that provide valuable insights to our customers.

Requirements:

• Experience with Hadoop stack (HDFS, Oozie, Sqoop, Spark, MapReduce, Flume).
• Proficient in a programming language: Scala preferred - Java, Swift, R or other statistics library OK.
• BS in computer science (or related field), statistics or math.
• Proficient writing advanced SQL.
• Basic UNIX shell scripting.
• Experience with Cloudera Impala analytics db a big plus.
• Experience with Spark, Spark SQL or Spark MLLib a big plus.
• Experience with other MPP analytic databases (Infobright, Teradata, Vertica, RedShift, etc.) a plus.
• Understanding of ML algorithms (regressions, clustering and classification, etc.) a plus.
• Experience with IPython Notebook, Databricks Cloud or other cloud-based analysis environment a plus.
• Experience with reporting/analytic tools (Microstrategy, Tableau, Pentaho, Jaspersoft, Actuate, etc.) a plus.
• Start-up or online advertising exposure valuable.

Responsibilities:

• Design, implement, QA and deploy ETL and analysis jobs to enhance our real-time analytics data warehouse.
• Respond to alerts, review error messages and fix reported bugs/quality issues in a timely manner.
• Perform data quality analysis and introduce monitors to maintain it.
• Assist users and report-writers in improving or debugging reports as well as dashboards.
• Work closely with Head of BI to fulfill the department's objectives.
• Assist systems group with database and other infrastructure upgrades (sometimes off-hours/weekends).
• Gain and maintain enough understanding of the business to deliver effective solutions.
• Help ensure best practices and technologies are used in the team.
