Technical Lead Engineer at Yoco

Job description

Key Responsibilities:

• Being both a highly technical, hands-on and effective manager for a team of 4 - 6 engineers
• Writing code for our mobile and web applications using React, NodeJS, React Native and Redux (with some gentle sprinkles of Objective C and Java as required).
• Managing a team of software engineers, including task planning and code reviews.
• Supporting and leading others who are doing the same.
• Working with our product management, design and UX minds to ensure that we deliver continuous value to our growing base of customers.
• Ability to execute challenging and complicated tasks and simplify them.
• Teaching the members of your pod, and the rest of the team, how to do the same both by example and by knowledge sharing.
• Building APIs and services on our backend using Scala and PostgreSQL.
• You will help decide and plan which features we will build, and how they are architected and implemented.
• Build features and products that are easy to use and help our customers grow their businesses.
• You will work closely with your team including other software engineers, product champions, designers and other members of the broader Yoco team.
• Own the release and QA cycles

Key requirements to perform responsibilities:

• BSc Degree/Hons or equivalent
• 6+ years as a professional Software Engineer
• Experience leading a small-medium size team
• Experience with both back-end and front-end development
• SQL database experience
• A clear and demonstrated passion for software engineering
• Demonstrated ability to recruit and manage technical teams, including performance management
• Proven ability to operate autonomously

Bonus points:

• Experience with JavaScript, React or React-Native
• Experience in Java, Scala, Kotlin or any other JVM language
• Knowledge of multiple programming languages
• Mobile development experience
• Experience designing and architecting products and working with customers.
