    Speech and Language Therapist

    Job Description

    Speech and Language Therapist - Band 6 Required for SEN School in Westerham

    Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

    Clinical

    •  To provide assessment, diagnosis and management on all aspects of communication and AAC within the designated caseloads and to provide support to other members of the CHATA team.
    •  To work with external teams to support students with AAC, developing clear pathways of care and support.
    •  To organise, and be responsible for, an autonomous caseload within the scope of the post: assessment, diagnosis, treatment and discharge, seeking advice and support from the designated supervisor as required.
    •  To negotiate with parents, carers and others around individual case management, recognising breakdown/conflict when it occurs and working to resolve any difficulties.
    •  To be responsible for administration and record keeping conforming to Health Team and School regulations which concert the format and security of patient records and the Data Protection Act.
    •  To be aware of, and adhere to, legal requirements relating to the provision of a Speech and Language Therapy Service and of procedures relating to Child Protection.
    •  To recognise own professional boundaries and seek advice and support as appropriate.
    •  To contribute to clinical audits and research as identified by SLT Lead and Head of Healthcare.
    •  To be aware of, and adhere to Team and Service clinical policies and plans and to carry out delegated clinical tasks as directed by SLT Lead and Head of Healthcare.
    •  To provide timely and accurate statistics as required by the Health Team.
    •  To provide appropriate and timely reports and other client related correspondence according to service standards and requirements of other agencies.
    •  To inform the Head of Healthcare of any complaints by students, parents/carers or others.
    •  To inform the Head of Healthcare of any accidents and incidents at work in line with Health and Safety Regulations or particular problems associated with service provision.
    •  To comply with the standards and priorities laid down by the Health Team and CHATA team.

    Liaison / Teamwork

    •  To liaise with Education staff and the multi-disciplinary team to prioritise own caseload and look at target setting and intervention.
    •  To work alongside colleagues to contribute to the function of multi-disciplinary/agency and uni-disciplinary working by discussing own and others input around client needs.
    •  To provide advice and support to Assistants and Volunteers.
    •  To supervise speech and language therapy students in close liaison with school placement co-ordinator.
    •  To be aware of, and adhere to, school policies and procedures.
    •  To attend and participate in staff meetings, clinical team meetings, annual reviews, student meetings, health team meetings and any other meetings which SLT is requested to be present at.

    Training / Personal Development

    •  To provide information to others about speech and language therapy, in liaison with Speech & Language Therapy and CHATA team colleagues.
    •  To plan and deliver training to other professionals, with support from Speech and Language Therapy and CHATA team colleagues.
    •  To reflect on clinical practice with peers and apply learning outcomes to practice.
    •  To participate in supervision with an identified member of staff and to identify own training needs through an agreed Personal Development Plan.
    •  To provide supervision to other therapists and support them in developing their own skills.
    •  To attend compulsory training on an annual basis or as required.
    •  Any other duties in line with the grade and scope of the post.
