    Cell Manager (Production Line Manager)

    Job description

    Manage a cell (production line)to produce required volume and mix of products on time and of the required quality constantly looking for improvement opportunities and realising them. Ensure that the required production in the cell is manufactured in the required time, within the laid down specifications and at the lowest cost, thus ensuring the utilisation of all resources to the optimum. Responsible for department administration and the utilisation of Human Resources.

    PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

    • Manage administration and improvement opportunities in the cell in support of the manufacturing of a quality product.
    • Ensures the designated cell produces required volume and mix of products on time and of the required quality.
    • Assist production personnel in reaching the production target by handling unforeseen circumstances.
    • Ensure planned and preventative maintenance are carried out to optimise machine performance.
    • Utilise Integrated Work Systems (IWS) principles to drive losses down and improve machine performance
    • Appraise staff, identify skill gaps and put in place training interventions to rectify identified gaps.
    • Ensure leadership pipeline are well populated within the cell/department to ensure continuity.
    • Maintain discipline in order to establish a healthy disciplined workforce.
    • Ensure effective deployment of resources in order to achieve agreed production targets.
    • Ensure that working environment is accident free and operations are carried out in line with BAT EHS Standards.
    • Plan and communicate production aspects (short- and medium term) in co-operation with colleagues in order to acquire optimum utilisation of resources.
    • Assist in the compilation of the budget to ensure expenditure is in line with the business plan. Investigate and explain budget deviations in order to manage financial aspects.
    • Ensure production performance information are updated and displayed on a daily basis according to agreed standards.
    • Follow Safety requirements in their Area including use of PPEs and confront unsafe behaviours
    • Follow Quality / operational Procedures and adhere to Quality & Housekeeping Standards
    • Ensure that mandatory training completion is at 100% for their roles.
    • Participate/ Lead ISO and Product Integrity & Transparency (PI&T) Audits for their area
    • 100% completion of safety and quality action plans.
    • Communicate effectively and promote communication and teamwork in the cell to enhance productivity, morale and sound employee relations.
    • Ensure Secondary Manufacturing Department (SMD) staff are aware of the impact of their own activities on other functions.
    • Ensure that an innovative culture is alive and innovative ideas implemented

    Requirement

    • Matric/Grade 12
    • Diploma/Degree in Manufacturing or relevant qualification in Manufacturing
    • Minimum three years’ experience in the FMCG industry
    • In depth knowledge of the interrelations of the production environment.
