    Temporary Farmworker Outreach Specialist

    Job Description

    The Farmworker Outreach Specialist acts under the direction and supervision of the Farmworker Outreach Manager. S/he is responsible for completing basic health assessments, referrals, and follow-up visits to migrant and seasonal farmworkers. This position requires a flexible schedule, a valid NC driver's license, car insurance, and reliable transportation.

    Job Responsibilities Include

    • Completing health assessments with farmworkers at farmworker locations to obtain services they may need.
    • Disseminating information to farmworkers regarding clinic services and state and local public services.
    • Providing case management services (i.e. assessment, referral, follow-up, and re -assessment). The employee may also provide direct services (i.e. food, clothing, toiletries, and over-the-counter medications).
    • Documenting all farmworker encounters on appropriate forms.
    • Providing health education at farmworker locations and providing health education in a clinic setting.
    • Complying with all NC Farmworker Health Program grant requirements.

    Desirable Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

    • Ability to establish and maintain effective and cordial working relationships with state and local agencies, farms, employees, and clients involving frequent negotiation and communication skills.
    • Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and written, in English and Spanish, when appropriate.
    • Ability to interview farmworkers with tact and to demonstrate cultural sensitivity.

    Education And Experience

    • High School Education, G.E.D. or equivalent training, preferred Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree.
    • 1 to 2 years experience required in public health or outreach work, preferably related to farmworker or migrant populations.
    • Must be fluently bilingual in English/Spanish.
    • Must have a valid North Carolina Driver's License and current auto insurance.
