(A starting annual total cost to company package of R687 903-27 negotiable commensurate with experience)

Five year fixed term contract, renewable

Minimum Requirements

• Honours degree in Economics or LLB Degree. Masters in Economics or LLM will be given preference.
• 4 to 6 years post-admission experience in a legal environment and 2 years management experience or 5 years working experience in an economics environment and 2 years management experience.
• Knowledge and understanding of the purpose and objectives of the Competition Act 89 of 1998, as amended, the South African Competition Commission and the broad understanding of the South African economy will be highly recommended.
• Prior exposure to competition law or competition economics will be an added advantage.

• Strategic thinker with strong analytical, communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to exercise sound judgment.
• Proven project management experience will be advantageous.
• Energetic and committed individual.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• The ability to pro-actively interact with management and team members.
• The ability to handle multiple tasks in both individual and team environments.

Key Responsibilities

• To participate and assist in the administration of a section.
• To participate in team efforts in the division and the Commission.
• To actively participate in Commission committees.
• To investigate and participate in the handling of complaints and exemption applications.
• To administer and execute activities to build capacity for research, report writing and correspondence.
• To coach and mentor junior staff in the section.
• To contribute to the development of Graduate Trainees.
• To screen cases and prepare necessary reports.
• To assist in the prosecution and settlement of matters.
• Contribute to the strategic and operational planning of the Enforcement and Exemptions Division.
