Your role as part of the iX team

• As an web development engineer at iXperience, you will be exposed to the functioning of the education and business teams and you will increasingly take on a decision making role as we develop the iXperience platform.
• Specifically, what you will achieve
• Become an integral and trusted member of the tech team; have a direct impact on business success with your ability to deliver functional solutions.
• Support our Head of Engineering in the technical architecture and implementation of the platform. This includes involvement with project prioritization, evaluating technical debt, technical problem resolution, resource planning for sprint cycles, planning and designing core feature implementation and Greenfield projects.

You’ll need to be pretty awesome at these things

• Technical competence; love coding, be able to learn new concepts quickly, code for fun outside of work – not because someone is paying you to - and look to continuously improve and find better ways of doing things.
• Excellent critical judgement; able to make good decisions, be trusted, respected and dependable, be proactive and responsive, ask the right questions, raise flags at the right time, able to prioritize and plan workloads for the team.

• The nitty gritty - you’ll also need to be able to tick all these boxes
• 2+ years’ experience in a scripting language such as Ruby, Python or JavaScript, and familiarity with any Web MVC framework.
• Proficient in working with a relational database, such as PostgreSQL.
• Fluent in Git and pull-request workflow.
• Experience of cloud platform such as AWS or Heroku.
• Passionate about learning and Web technology.

The nice-to-haves - we’ll let these slide if everything else fits

• Ideally you will have 2+ years’ experience of Ruby on Rails, plus relevant general work experience.
• We will consider you if you have less work experience, but you need to live and breathe open source coding and possess the attributes described, with the potential to become a great team leader.
• Startup experience. Sometimes our priorities change so you've got to be comfortable with ambiguity, be able to wear lots of hats and adapt easily as we continue to grow.
