A leading Financial Services organization is currently looking for an Infrastructure Solution Designer that specialises in either Wintel or UNIX/Linux.

Main purpose of the job:

Infrastructure Solutions Designer focusing on the Wintel server environment including Microsoft server hardware, Microsoft server operating systems and systems software such as AD, SharePoint and CRM. To develop infrastructure solutions designs that meet the business and systems requirements of the organisation and that align to the infrastructure technology architecture/strategy.

Job objectives:

• Current and future design of the Wintel server stack including the virtualised server hardware, SQL clusters, Microsoft server operating systems and systems software.
• Keep abreast of technology especially in the Wintel server domain by conducting relevant research
• Engage with vendors on an on-going basis to stay current with solutions/opportunities
• Draw up proposals for the future Wintel technology stack.
• Cost optimisation of the Microsoft server environment including hardware and licencing
• To determine the current state and design the “to be” infrastructure solutions involving server, storage, security and networks for business and IT Projects
• Engage with the Architects to ensure alignment of the designs with the architecture principles and “to be“ architectures
• Determine the costs associated with the proposed solutions designs
• Document the designs and obtain approval from business and IT stakeholders
• Present the designs to the Design Authority and Security Design Authority
• Ensure that the implementation complies with the solution design
• Participate in technology selection and evaluation
• Participate in technology proof of concepts
• Provide SME consultation to support business and the Group Technology Services division

Job qualifications and experience:

• A BSc in Computer Science or Information Systems, or relevant diploma or related certificates/training.
• This is an opportunity for someone with extensive experience in Microsoft Server Technologies who is either working in the solutions architecture/design space or who wishes to become a solutions architect/designer. Experience across a broad range of IT technologies including server, operating systems, storage, database, security and networks is essential.
• 7-10 years of broad based IT experience in Microsoft server technologies including server hardware, operating systems and systems software such as Exchange, Active Directory, SharePoint etc. Associated experience in storage, security and network is required.
• Infrastructure solutions design experience in the above technologies will be a distinct advantage.
• Financial services IT experience will be advantageous.
• Experience in research, technology evaluation and writing up technical proposals/business cases is required.
• Expert, in depth knowledge of the Microsoft server technologies. Good general knowledge of IT / IS technology, how it all fits together and key trends in the industry.
