MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

Supervision of legal matters for the Group, including the overseeing of any matter that goes litigious, and the conclusion of agreements for the Group

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Attending to collection of outstanding debts from handovers received from debtors and insurance departments.
• Attending to administration of litigation files including third party insurance matters, debt collections, contractual and delictual disputes;
• Perusal and signing of supplier credit applications;
• Perusal and verifying terms and conditions for the company;
• Updates and reports to management on major litigious matters;
• Opinions given on certain matters and legal points for the Group;
• Perusal and signing of Confidentiality Agreements
• Drafting and/or vetting of commercial contracts for the Group, including tender documents, FML agreements etc;
• Attending to all queries and issues referred to it by the Group Legal Risk and Compliance Manager.
• Assist the Group Legal Risk and Compliance Manager where required with any company secretarial issues.
• General legal research where required.
• Assist the Group Legal Advisor and Group Risk Officer where required with compliance issues for the Group.
• Provide opinions on certain legal issues for the Group.
• Assist with company secretarial work handled in the legal department.
• Assist with anything legal in nature and as required by the management.
• Supervise the staff in the legal department and attend to all management functions for the legal department.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• LLB Degree.
• Admitted Attorney
• Minimum 5 years post article work experience
• Experience in corporate work environment
• Management experience preferable

Knowledge:

• Litigation experience as to the court processes and pleadings.
• Good understanding of the law and applicable Acts to the Group.
• Understanding of general business practice.
• Knowledge of legal principles and implications applicable to the Group
• Knowledge of changes in the legal field which could impact on the Group.
• Knowledge of the implementation of rules and regulations in line with legal requirements
