    Corporate Finance Manager (Compliance) - Southern African Markets

    Job description

    British American Tobacco currently have an exciting new opportunity for a Corporate Finance Manager (Compliance) to be based in our Cape Town office on a permanent basis.

    Purpose

    The role performs and or supervises system reviews concentrating on the high-risk areas of British American Tobacco Southern African Markets "(SAM"). The countries making SAM are Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Malawi, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

    The objective is to provide Management with information, facilitation and advice to ensure an appropriate balance of risk and control within the organisations. It will further promote an awareness of control and risk throughout the business. It will review compliance with UK and local Corporate Governance requirements. It will supervise and conduct independent risk –based operational process reviews to help ensure that the systems and procedures support the achievement of business goals and objectives.

    The Corporate Finance Manager (Compliance) will perform the following duties:

    • Prepare written reports for senior management that clearly and accurately explain the findings and action plans for improvement.
    • Provide formal training for the operating companies' management and staff to raise the awareness of risk and control.
    • Develop leadership skills for own career advancement.
    • Provide administrative support to the Local Audit Committees in the respective end markets.
    • Contributes to the successful running of the business through risk based assessments to the corporate objectives.
    • Reviewing and reporting on the control framework that allows the management to meet their duties.
    • Liaison with the BU Finance Manager, who is responsible for monitoring the progress of the function.
    • Develop and drive efficiency improvements, based on best practice and in line with group standardisation.
    • Drive risk framework, leading cross functional teams dealing with control navigator initiatives and risk.
    • Ensure entity / functional compliance with local laws and regulations (including tax, minority interests, external regulatory reporting).

     

    Requirements

    • A postgraduate degree with Accounting will be required (i.e. M+4).
    • Qualified Chartered Accountant.
    • A minimum of 5 years relevant financial experience of which at least 2 years should have been in a Controlling or Audit related Finance environment.
    • Detailed working experience of the various modules in ERP systems and various Accounting Software (FI, MM & PA modules in SAP would be an added advantage) and Advanced Microsoft Excel.
    • Strong IT skills would enable the incumbent to maintain management information systems as well as specify business requirements to develop or enhance current management information systems.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to manage relationships across all levels within the company and externally.
    • An understanding of the relationships / interfaces between departments and functions.
    • Possess excellent influencing and communications skills with ability to interact with all levels of senior management.
    • An ability to work effectively with all levels of staff within the company and externally – this should be demonstrated by successful experience in business partnership and decision support.
    • A commercial approach to all activities which requires constant questioning and challenging of the conventional practices.
    • Pro-active, persuasive and creative as the jobholder will be introducing new rules and changing standards of practice.
    • Project management skills - able to work independently and maintain level of independence whilst working in partnership with the Head Office Finance team.
    • Understanding of the FMCG business environment, interrelationship/interfaces between functions.
