CAREER OPPORTUNITY

The Santam Marketing team has a position available for a Senior Designer who will be based at Head Office Bellville.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The role is required to drive design strategy and creative direction for the Santam in-house design studio (Design Hub), to take responsibility for key projects and clients. To oversee and manage the work of junior designers. The candidate will need a strong eye for design, visual communication and concepts as well as a good understanding of strategy to ensure that they drive innovation in the design team with particular focus on internal/below the line creative message delivery for key stakeholders within Santam.

The candidate will be responsible for conceptual and stylistic direction and managing the work of designers in-house, while working with the Brand Manager and key clients.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Design and art direction
• Drive design and creative for Santam marketing & communication across relevant portfolios, with particular emphasis on internal brand design
• Document and input the design elements of briefs for internal/below the line campaign
• Conceptualise design work per brief and strategy – big picture thinking
• Deliver world class and innovative internal campaigns and designs
• Drive consistency, innovation and freshness in design delivery
• Lead creative delivery for larger projects, conceptualising initial concepts to be fleshed out by Design team
• Build credibility in design by constantly driving quality and innovation in the delivery of design projects
• Display technical excellence and innovation in design
• Lead and manage design team ensuring project delivery is in line with the brand strategy and client requirements
• Business Strategy
• Understand the Santam strategy and translate this into design
• Understand and instil commercial mindfulness through designing concepts that work and are cost effective
• Complete and deliver design projects that are on budget, on time and of high quality
• Adherence to Santam Corporate Identity
• Ensure compliance of all creative material to the Santam corporate identity
• Provide quality control over concepts and projects to ensure brand alignment and consistency
• Creative Guidance
• Manage creative development processes, take responsibility for quality assurance and provide guidance on design delivery across relevant portfolios
• Ensure the design team delivers according to the critical timelines
• Project Management
• Attend client meetings from briefing to presentation and throughout delivery as required
• Ensure compliance with the brief, strategic direction and time allocation and keep client updated on all requirements together with Traffic manager.
• Ensure the Brand Manager reviews key project work for approval prior to being forwarded to the client and prior to presentations
• Anticipate project issues before they arise
• Build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders
• Quality Control
• Check and ensure accuracy of all artwork including reviewing copy, layouts for both design and copy considerations
• Ensure proof and production/press checks are reviewed
• Ensure accurate archiving of projects

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Tertiary – 3 year Graphic Design degree/diploma
• Some agency experience is advantageous
• 8 years’ relevant experience in Design, including Packages used in design
• Experience in writing and articulating design briefs
• Experience in reviewing junior/mid-weight designer work
• Project management experience – ability to manage multiple projects

SKILLS

• Demonstrate competency in evaluating creative work
• Highly proficient in the Adobe Suite of programs including InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop
