    Job description

    BUSINESS UNIT: Secunda Synfuels Operations

    Purpose of Job /Role Intent:

    • To cost effectively ensure the availability of safe and reliable assets to production.
    • Effective maintenance of the plant to ensure availability and reliability of the plant equipment and facilities. Maintenance responsibilities will be coordinated through preventative and corrective maintenance scheduling


    Minimum Qualifications and Experience required

    • B.Eng./B.Sc. Eng. /B.Sc. (Hons)/B.Sc./B. Tech (Eng.)
    • Government Certificate of Competency (wish)
    • Minimum of 5 years Maintenance Management Experience; 8 years total relevant Operations experience

    • Delivery results Backlog of critical maintenance and function testing
    • Report: Validate the metering manual (GC/calibration)
    • Quality results Ensures that self and team meet targets, due dates and quality standards
    • Cost/capital competitiveness Budget management
    • Ensure financial discipline amongst the maintenance department. Meet the maintenance budget.
    • Consistently reduce all non-value-adding work
    • Have monthly financial meetings with subordinates to ensure proper cost control.
    • Cost optimization by ensuring maintenance plans effectiveness in line with the latest RBI studies.
    • Productivity results Ensure equipment availability to meet the production plan.
    • Consistently improve productivity
    • Manage cost of maintenance Compile annual maintenance budget. Compile annual long term maintenance budget. Control cost to ensure the maintenance budget is achieved within budget.
    • Develop long term renewal plans
    • SHE Performance Manage operations risks by making sure that all risks are identified, analysed and mitigated to acceptable levels.
    • Execute SHE strategy to achieve zero harm. Continuous improvement of key safety metrics to maintain license to operate.
    • Asset Management: Manage, revise and improvement of Asset Management standards for maintenance
    • Manage asset life cycle and plans
    • Maintain assets within agreed operations envelope conditions.
    • To maintain assets to set standards
    • Input into 5 year rolling capital plan
    • Manage Maintenance spares and materials
    • Oversee the management of Maintenance planning
    • Technology management at functional unit level, Liaison with technology license holder.
    • Identification of technical; problems/opportunities;
    • Benchmarking optimal solutions and practices;
    • Participating in/leading design decisions; Managing implementation;
    • Shut down management;
    • Management of standards; Governance (where applicable)

    • Coordinate the Maintenance Department
    • Lead in establishing and continuously improving maintenance best practices, maintenance systems, aligning the right skilled resources to work with the right issues, improve and create maintenance standard for all process.
    • Lead in continuous performance improvements within his/hers areas of responsibilities, including Health Safety and Environment
    • Report to Plant Manager on performance, such as systems availabilities, planned maintenance shutdowns, planning of maintenance need including budget needs
    • Strategic Direction Contribute in the translation and execution of the business strategy; objectives and plan into action for employees:

    • Strategy contribution, translation and execution Ensure that vision, values and business direction are embraced by the team

    • Operational project plans and priorities Ensure that the general maintenance plan fits into the production plan.
    • Develop annual work and project plans
    • Implementation/execution Review/ Implement maintenance plans on non-statutory equipment.
    • Ensure that plans are executed and team objectives are achieved consistently in a safe work environment
    • Resource and asset management coordination Ensure that all equipment is maintained to legal requirements.
    • Provide available cost effective resources
    • Result monitoring and control Review maintenance philosophy to support optimum and cost effective practices.
    • Report: Validate the metering manual (GC/calibration)
    • Ensure timely results and compliance through control systems and measures
    • Problem solving and decision quality Make quality decisions and find solutions which will improve team results
    • Governance/charter/legal compliance Risk base inspection studies: Scheduling of equipment
