A bachelor’s degree in accounting/ Accounting Science.
The relevant postgraduate qualification and completed SAICA/SAIPA articles will be an added advantage;
Five years of relevant experience;
The candidate should further display technical accounting skills, financial recording, and bookkeeping skills;
Candidate should further have excellent verbal as well as written communication skills. Higher education experience, as well as a driver's license, will be an added advantage;
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices, standards and regulatory requirements, and financial reporting and analysis;
Proficient in Microsoft Excel;
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy;
The candidate should display strong analytical and effective problem-solving skills to identify and correct financial discrepancies.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment;
Technical accounting skills and experience using accounting software;
Duties
Ensure that General ledger accounts data is accurate. Conduct ledger audits to maintain truthful and precise data in documents.
Analyzing and interpreting financial information, provides assurance that information complies with policy and regulatory standards.
Ensure that data supports budgeting and forecasting requirements, and they assist in providing solutions to control issues.
Closing off month and year-end processes, record information such as accrual, interdepartmental entries etc. into the University’s accounting ledger.
Perform account analysis to ensure that entries and balances are accurate.
On a regular basis, reconcile general ledger accounts with the relevant schedules.
Ensure that all entries are accurate, that transactions are reported per accounting standards and policy regulations, and that errors are corrected where necessary.
Prepare Journal Entries with appropriate supporting documentation and ensure that they are accurately captured in the financial system.
Assist with ad-hoc financial analysis and projects as needed.
Assist in ensuring the University tax matters comply with SARS regulations e.g. VAT, Income tax, etc.
Process daily journals to correct allocations within the accounting records to comply with the appropriate accounting policies and procedures.
Prepare appropriate reconciliations of liabilities and assets, key income statement accounts, and intercompany transactions to ensure the balances are accurate within the accounting system.
Preparing and capturing intercompany-related transactions, ensuring intercompany balances are fully reconciled monthly, and ensuring all transactions have been processed to the correct ledger/contract.
Manage and resolve any issues affecting the processing of transactions that directly impact the accounting records.
Assist in resolving accounting queries with the University Financial Manager.
Collaborating with other departments to complete accurate records and provide accounting support;
Attend to and ensure all audit matters relating to general ledger management are addressed.
Assist the Finance manager with the Financial Statement Preparations.
Review the work done by the Assistant accountants.
