Afrikaans Design and Layout Manager at Optimi Learning

The Role

• Optimi is currently looking to hire an individual responsible for developing educational material as the Manager of the Design and Layout team. The ideal candidate should be creative, well versed in publishing and able to manage a team of product designers.

Requirements:

• Degree or diploma in Graphic Design with publishing background.
• Sound knowledge of graphic design programmes, highly skilled in Adobe Creative Suite. Experience in book design beneficial.
• Previous publishing experience, with experience in educational material is beneficial.
• Sound knowledge of print requirements and processes.
• Strong project management and organisational skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and effective relation building capacity with clients, partners, and internal teams at different levels in the organisation.
• Keen eye for detail, with an artistic approach.
• Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines and prioritise different tasks.
• Ability to adapt well to change as they will be working in a high paced environment.
• Good command of English and Afrikaans, both written and spoken.

Duties:

• Manage internal direct reports and external team of Graphic Layout Designers – deadlines, quality, template design, upskilling, training, mentoring
• Create and embed improved design templates for a range of products, including books, covers, and additional content creation (website content, website sample books, sample books, brochures).
• Instil a culture of creative design and upskill team on new techniques, software and processes.
• Finalise copy for print, liaise with various printers to meet their requirements, manage print proof process, manage upload of final documents and print configurations to document management system.
• Liaise with Production Coordination, Editorial and Supply Chain teams to meet their requirements and deadlines.
