Thomas International are a leading global provider of psychometric assessments. We are entering an exciting period of accelerated growth due to the recent launch of our market leading Assessment Platform. We are a growing Science team focused on combining data science, psychology, and analytics with an experimental mindset to deliver a best-in-class experience for our customers.
The assistant research psychologist will support in various concurrent research streams of the science function: designing and running studies, analysing data and reporting on results. They will work with the wider team as well as stakeholders around the business.
Psychometric validation, localisation and industry regulation
Thomas continually conducts validation research to ensure our psychometric assessments are valid and reliable:
Working with the wider Science team to run validation studies, analyse data and document findings
Assist in the research required for the submission of psychometric assessment to industry regulators such as the BPS, HPCSA and DNV
Create representative norm groups for regions based on our database of assessment results
Academic engagement
A key function of the Science function is ensuring our assessments and products are well-grounded in academic research:
Co-authoring academic papers using our assessments
Coordinating research studies to support academic papers
Conducting thorough academic literature searches
Product research, development and innovation
The Science team is heavily involved in product innovation and development and constantly look at ways to enhance our assessments and products as well as building entirely new solutions. New ideas are extensively validated, not just academically, but with potential customers:
Contribute to idea development discussions
Conduct interviews with potential customers around new product initiatives
Take a diligent approach to recording, collating and summarising findings from customer interviews
Research project coordination
Many of our research streams are longer term projects that require strong project coordination skills, working with stakeholders around the business
Track and document progress on key research programmes
Ensure projects are being completed to deadlines, feeding back any issues or blockers
Work with various stakeholders to ensure progress
Requirements
Knowledge of statistical models and research methods. Intermediate to Advanced excel skills. Knowledge of survey platforms such as Survey Monkey or Qualtrics. Knowledge of statistical packages such as SPSS or R
Honours degree in Psychology, Industrial/Organisational psychology preferable
Registration with HPCSA (Health Professions Council of South Africa) as an Independent Psychometrist or Industrial/organisational or Research psychologist
Either 2 years applied experience in the relevant fields of psychometrics, industrial/organisational psychology, HR and psychology research or Master’s degree in relevant psychology disciplines like psychometrics, research methods, statistics, data science
