    Associate Professor - Electrical Engineering - eMalahleni

    • The Department of Electrical Engineering, eMalahleni Campus has one position for dynamic and innovative Associate Professor specializing in cutting-edge research, including Applications in Artificial Intelligence, Renewable energy, High-Voltage Technology, Power systems, Power converters, Communication Engineering, Electromagnetic Interference, Electronics Engineering, and any related research areas. This position offers the opportunity to lead groundbreaking projects and contribute to our students' academic and professional development in these vital fields.
    • The successful applicant will be based at the eMalahleni campus to present classes and supervise postgraduate students.

    Key Responsibilities:
    Teaching and Learning

    • Present lectures and assessments of students in related subjects in undergraduate and postgraduateprogrammes.
    • Lead quality teaching and learning with technology, such as comfortable use of the Learning Management Systems (LMS).
    • Lead subject curriculum development and subject curriculum development and/or implementation committees.
    • Responsible for and provide leadership in compiling and maintaining quality study guides, laboratory guides, subject files and other Teaching and Learning material.
    • Responsible for administrative tasks related to research, innovation, teaching and learning activities.

    Institutional Involvement and Leadership

    • Lead departmental, faculty and institutional initiatives in collaboration with Technology Stations, Centres, Institutes and Research Niche Areas.
    • Lead institutional research and innovation projects.

    Industry

    • Liaise with industry on course and subject levels regarding curricula, visits, research, and other interactions.
    • Lead the development and presentation of Short Learning Programmes (SLPs) to assist Industry with skills and development needs.

    Research

    • To be actively involved in the department's research activities in Electrical Engineering and provide strategic research leadership.
    • Lead national and international research and innovation activities.
    • Responsible for independent research and innovation projects and associated funding.
    • Participate in research and innovation activities at the Technology Stations, Centres, Institutes and

    Research Niche Areas.

    • Produce at least 2 research and innovation output units per year.
    • Professional bodies and Societies
    • Registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) in the appropriate professional category is advantageous. Must also hold valid and relevant membership of at least one recognized voluntary association/society.

    Community Engagement

    • Lead and participate in impactful community engagement projects.

    Academic Qualification:

    • PhD (NQF 10) in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field
    • Proven track record of research in Applications of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Renewable energy,
    • Power systems and any related research areas. Experience in securing external research funding and publishing in DHET-accredited journals.

    Experience:

    • Five (5) years relevant experience at Senior Lecturer
    • Record of accomplishment of successful supervision of postgraduate students at least at a Doctorate Level.
    • Evidence in leading research activities in the fields of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
    • Evidence of proven record accomplishment of scholarly research outputs in accredited journals and peerreviewed conferences.
    • Evidence of attracting external funding for research and innovation projects.
    • Evidence of National Research Foundation (NRF) rating in an appropriate research rating category or eligible to be NRF Ratable.
    • Evidence of industry liaison and involvement in Centres, Institutes and Technology Stations will be an advantage.
    • Evidence in contributing to the development of new curriculum in HEIs environment.
    • Evidence of Experience with impactful Community Engagement activities.
