    BMS Design and Configuration Technician (Western Cape)

    OBJECTIVES MAIN FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

    • Conduct and manage working methods to ensure all clients SLAs are achieved.
    • Configuration and Management of Data Centre monitoring systems.
    • Design building automation systems for standard and/or critical environment facilities such as data centres
    • Coordinate submittals for the assigned BMS/EPMS projects.
    • Coordinate with Project Managers and third-party Contractors.
    • Program system controllers (Schneider, Siemens, Tredium Controllers etc).
    • Design and Build graphics for HMI, front ends, dashboards and digital signage and reports.
    • Use Schneider Scripting and Ladder Logic to write job specific programs such Data Centre Matrix, PUE, WUE, CUE calculation, alarms, and trends.
    • Coordinate with third party commissioning agents as needed.
    • Visit work site, as needed, must be familiar with jobsite conditions.
    • Troubleshooting BMS problems.
    • The BMS EPMS Controls Programmer will coordinate their activities to maintain project schedules and ensure successful project completion.
    • Coordinate tasks with in-house installation teams.
    • Assist with Hardware/Software calibration.
    • Provide building management system training.
    • Attend site meetings as required.
    • Provides technical support to Operations Team.
    • Ensure material and equipment is installed as per drawings.
    • Perform point-to-point checkouts to ensure connectivity between field devices and controllers.
    • Select control products, components, applications, and systems.
    • Collaborate with the Project Manager, Engineers, and support staff.
    • Set-up and test alarming for all required BMS hardware.
    • Verification of data to confirm the correct values are being captured.
    • Ensure no duplication of data.
    • Set up and configuration of virtual sensors on BMS Systems.
    • System enhancement and automation.
    • Expected to improve current processes and introduce automation with aim towards simplification.
    • Daily system checks to ensure devices are online, operational, and free from alarms.
    • Ensure the various power monitoring devices are running the correct firmware version.
    • In conjunction with national Operations teams, ensure the latest firmware version has been tested in an agreed test environment prior to implementation.
    • Active participation in new Data Centre fit out projects or expansions.
    • Quick responses to potentially critical situations – relevant to role.
    • 3rd party vendor management and service delivery – Monitoring system hardware and software support
    • Active involvement in network, physical and cyber security matters
    • Assist with operational requests to investigate and resolve system related configuration issues.
    • Compliance in accordance with all relative policies and procedures
    • Meet agreed inter-departmental OLA (Operational Level Agreement)
    • Implement company and departmental policies, processes, and work instructions as per the agreed quality and timeline/ RFS.

    Requirements
    SKILLS REQUIREMENT

    • Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, direct, and control all aspects of project activities.
    • Ability to work with the team to find mutually satisfactory solutions to difficult issues.
    • Ability to work with all levels of management and non-management personnel.
    • Basic knowledge of office administration, reporting software, control software, business operations, drawings, buildings, equipment, housekeeping, construction, purchasing, inventory control, and safety management.
    • Minimum of four years of relevant experience, with at least two years as an automation technician.
    • Working knowledge of at least one HVAC controls system (preferably Schneider Controls with EBO and PME experience).
    • Good working knowledge of the systems commonly monitored and controlled by a building DCO. Systems may include StrucxureWare/EBO 3.2/PME 9, Modbus and Lonworks Controllers, BACnet Controllers and others.
    • Ability to interface with contractors at a supervisory and management level.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Strong experience with Windows and MS Office.
    • Able to work in a fast-paced environment.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

    • Matric/Grade 12 is essential.
    • Excellent Excel Skills
    • Minimum of 3 years relevant data centre experience preferable
    • Extensive knowledge of network topology and protocols preferable
