    Casualty Treaty Underwriter - Southern Africa

    About The Role

    • We are looking for highly motivated and result oriented underwriter to join our Casualty Regional Markets (CRM) underwriting team.
    • You evaluate and assess risks in accordance with company guidelines and make underwriting decisions for assigned treaties. You will also write referrals for your clients and defend them to our higher management for the ultimate decisions.
    • You will help us to grow and maintain a sustainable portfolio which we intend to develop in the future with your help.
    • Do you want to nurture our transaction pipeline together with the client managers of your accounts and convert the opportunities into deals that benefit both us and our clients? To this end, you will initiate discussions with clients to understand their motivation, needs and priorities. You will develop customized reinsurance solutions and transactions, using the full range of our competences.
    • You will play a meaningful role in meetings and interactions with our Southern African clients and brokers, you will build relationships with your client's casualty underwriters and forge the know-how transfers.
    • You will report directly to the casualty treaty desk head of CRM in Zurich Switzerland and will interact frequently with the CRM team.
    • You will have a strong enabling role in the XFT Southern Africa and execute our plan.
    • You will also be a member of the EMEA Casualty hub whose goal is to strengthen transactions, professionalize solutions and sharpen our core business. We expect you to contribute to the execution of our strategy.

    About The Team

    Who are we? Our desk is based in Zurich, Switzerland with a planned expansion to team members in Madrid, Milan and Johannesburg. It consists of an international underwriting team. You will join a collaborative environment. Our clients are all over Continental Europe, Middle East and Africa and you will be looking after the Southern African.

    We focus on casualty insurance, serving a client base ranging from car owners to corporation risks. To distinguish ourselves from the competition, we also provide services to our clients, and we share our know-how with them. We seek to help our clients grow and to flourish with them, by closing the protection gap as well as in helping our clients with their capital management and product innovation.

    Deals we write in our desk range from standardized treaties to more tailor-made solutions with an extended coverage. You will collaborate with other lines of business, facultative underwriting, structured reinsurance and a variety of group functions.

    About You

    • You have earned a university degree (Master or equivalent), preferably with a quantitative, scientific or economic focus.
    • You have more than 2 years experience in insurance or reinsurance.
    • Any experience in the casualty treaty underwriting is a plus.
    • You believe learning should never stop and appreciate development and change as meaningful ingredients to your work.
    • You have strong analytical and quantitative skills and are a pragmatic problem solver, also under time constraints and changing boundary conditions. You flourish with delivering results.
    • It is vital that you have an intrinsic motivation and like to take ownership: your manager empowers you and does not intend to micromanage you.
    • You are creative, and you have outstanding communication skills, and you thrive in collaborations with colleagues and clients.
    • You are proficient in English. You love to interact with colleagues from many different nationalities and backgrounds.

    Also Advantageous

    • Work experience in a quantitative field and/or consulting background
    • Primary insurance know-how
    • Actuarial training
    • Experience in project or deal team management
