    Commodity Trader

    Role Overview:

    • Provide professional advisory service function to the agricultural market in addition to risk management and maize price management for a portfolio of key agricultural customers in all areas of the business
    • Lead market analysis and discussions and ensure that both local and international market opportunities are maximised
    • Key link between the local business and the rest of the company
    • Provide input into the business plan
    • Identify trading opportunities, which incorporates supply and demand analysis, arbitration potential, spread trading and flat price trading
    • Develop professional relationships with a portfolio of agricultural customers
    • Develop and utilise internal/external networks with International Futures Exchange entities to engage support and effectively optimise the customer's position regarding a grain marketing strategy
    • Advises customers regarding the risk associated with the grain marketing strategy
    • Responsible for the implementation of the grain marketing strategy
    • Presentations/seminars to customers in order to retain or gain new business
    • Ensure export and import targets are achieved annually
    • Manages sales targets and plan marketing initiatives in line with the business unit
    • Executes customer trades on behalf of customers
    • Provide analysis and advice on market expectations
    • Monitor the agricultural market in the local and international areas, in terms of climatic conditions and ensure local/international crop surveys are co-ordinated and executed
    • Monitor competitor activity for the purpose of understanding the potential and risk profile of each portfolio
    • Lead analysis of both imported and local supply and demand factors
    • Actively manage the overall company risk and exposure to the local market including commodity and forex positions where applicable
    • Ensure adherence to ethical practices as well as Corporate Governance o Complies with all SOL/Corp procedures and policies
       

     

    Qualifications/Experience Required

    • Undergraduate University Degree which is Business/Economics/Financial orientated
    • Minimum 5 -7 years experience in trading of agricultural markets
    • Thorough understanding of basic accounting practices
    • In depth knowledge and understanding of market analysis, trading concepts and futures markets Ability to innovatively analyse and implement solutions to trading opportunities
    • Understanding of options trading, technical analysis and experience in risk management
