Compliance Officer at Swiss Re

About the role:

You will lead compliance activities in support of the Swiss Re Corporate Solutions business in South Africa to ensure compliance with the applicable rules and regulations. You will also have the opportunity to engage in broader Compliance initiatives. Specifically, you will:

• Monitor, assess and support implementation of regulatory developments relating to Compliance Risks.
• Support development of local Compliance Risk Frameworks, including drafting local standards and processes, training and communication for new and changes to regulations.
• Provide enabling guidance and communication to the business with respect to Compliance requirements and implementation of the Compliance Programme, including Global Compliance topics, with a particular focus on South African requirements
• Perform Compliance Risk Assessments and monitoring on the legal entity and business specific topics.
• Deliver regular and relevant reporting to management and the Board of Directors
• Ensure FAIS registers are monitored and maintained, fit and proper requirements tracked.
• Serve as point of contact for regulators. Includes actively participating during regulatory inspections and exams, managing and responding to regulatory inquiries and requests.

About You:

• University degree in business, legal or relevant field
• Minimum 5years compliance, legal or risk management experience, preferably in an insurance company
• Solid understanding of compliance risks and requirements in South Africa (e.g. FAIS act, Short-Term Insurance Act, Insurance Act and Prudential Regulations, FSRA, POPIA, TCF and Market Conduct), other knowledge of compliance requirements in EMEA a plus
• Must adhere to the Fitness and Propriety requirements for Compliance Officers in terms of the FAIS Act and the Key Persons requirements as set out in Prudential Standard GOI 4 of the Insurance Act
• Completed Regulatory Examination for Key Individuals (RE1)
• Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal and presentation skills in English
