Data Centre Specialist at City of Johannesburg

Minimum Requirements:

• Grade 12 plus National Diploma NQF 6 in IT (Computer Science, Computer Engineering, etc.) related field or equivalent;
• 3 - 5 years’ experience managing mission-critical data centres at local government level, or at Data Centre facility providers (co-location facilities);
• Data Centre best practices related to people, processes, tools, data, and technology;
• Infrastructure and storage best practices and technologies;
• Understands cyber-security best practices and technologies;
• Strong understanding of Data Centre and Server Management concepts;
• Data Centre and server management Standard Operating Process Design and Architecture;
• Data Centre and server management support Process Metrics;
• Quantitative and service level management;
• Ability to deliver results per plan and manage variance.
• Municipal domain knowledge;
• Knowledge of Data Centre technologies and best practices;
• Knowledge of cloud technologies and IAAS best practices.

Primary Function:

• Responsible for the activities in the areas of operations and delivery of production, data control, operations, and operations support for the Data Centre Environments of the City. Develop and implement Data Centre and Server management-related standards, procedures, and processes for GICT&IM. Plan and manage the support of new technologies, data centre performance and reliability. Responsible for the overall enterprise-wide effectiveness and efficiency of Data Centre technology and related systems and server management-related solutions in ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction are maintained. Lead the refresh, and migration to new technologies, evaluate processing performance relating to machine utilization and reliability, and forecast capacity, physical and resource needs of the Data Centre and server management requirements to meet established objectives. Operate, support and coordinate Data Centre and server management-related operations, business continuance and restoration plan that isolate problems and implement pre-planned alternative routes or systems to restore service.

• Data Centre Operations Management;
• Migration towards and maintain the service-oriented IT IAAS delivery model.
