Deputy Editor (Fixed-Term Contract) at Media24 (Pty) Ltd

Key responsibilities:

• Proof-reading of articles;
• Providing clear communication to production regarding current editorial status;
• Ensuring content is subbed ahead of deadline;
• Be the link between editorial and production;
• Edit and rewrite content;
• Identify and develop articles and edit same;
• Provide editorial input for publication;
• Oversee and guide journalists;
• Stand in for editor when required;
• Contribute towards strategic editorial decisions; and
• Conform to Soccer Laduma editorial style.

Skills and competencies:

• High degree of local and international football knowledge
• Working knowledge of media law and the Press Code

Minimum Requirements:

• Relevant tertiary qualification in journalism, media studies or language qualification;
• At least 3-5 years’ experience in a sub-editing role in a news environment; 
• Sound knowledge of editorial principles and journalism ethics;
• Proven excellent written English language skills
• Proficiency in relevant computer package and software.
