Design Review Engineer at Bureau Veritas Group

Introduction

The Design Review Engineer is tasked with the review, assessment or evaluation of design documents and associated drawings according to the applicable design review procedures and relevant standards or regulations. He/She will report to the Design Review Team Leader.

Minimum Requirements and Skills

• Minimum 3-5 years with similar role experience with design of structures or equipment,
• Minimum bachelor’s degree in mechanical or structural engineering, registration as Professional Engineer with ECSA is preferred.
• Knowledge on pressure equipment (ASME VIII, ASME B31, EN 13445 and PD 5500),
• Knowledge of steel structural design (SANAS 10162-1, EN Standards),
• Knowledge of building standard (SANS 10400),
• Knowledge of lifting Standards and cranes is an advantage.
• Understanding of the requirements of the Pressure Equipment Regulations and SANS 347
• Exposure to ISO 17020 or ISO 17065 is an advantage.
• Exposure to project management (planning & scheduling, organizational skills, being proactive) is an advantage,
• Able to carry out several tasks concurrently and deliver accurately,
• Teamwork & Communication: fluent in English oral and written, open to support others, Open mind and willing to learning new skills,
• Proficiency in using computer (usual MS suite: Word, Excel, PPT, Outlook…), experience in writing procedures or reports is an advantage.
• Proficiency in engineering software such as PV Elite, Nastran, Prokon, STAAD, Robot, SACS etc. or similar.

Job Specification

The Design Review Engineer shall, but not limited to:

Ensure the design review activities are performed and delivered according to:

• GM TD 011 - Implementation of design verification
• GM SI 121 – Certification of Offshore containers according DNV standard 2.7-1 and/or EN 12079-1
• GM SI 123 – Certification of Portable Offshore Units according DNV standard 2.7-3 and/or EN 12079-3
• IND-RSA-IBI-TWI-01 - Design Calculation & Drawings Verification under the PER Regulation.
• TR3 Ext C design review tasks where applicable and permitted.
• The Design Review Engineer shall, but not limited to:
• Research standards and methods in order to expand the services that can be offered.
• Provide technical assistance to clients in order to ensure continued inspection business.
• Participate in industry forums such as the Association of Approved Inspection Authorities to promote the status of BV.
• Participate in the TLS working group
• Ensure the yearly IND Department’s Objectives and KPIs are met in relation to Quality & Operational performance.
