    Designer II - Cape Town

    Job description

    Assist in creating and presenting the design brief.

    • Assist in sourcing and identifying key products, fabrics and trims for the season.
    • Assist in building seasonal colour palettes.
    • Assist in researching and developing key items and themes.
    • Collaborate with trend teams.
    • Assist in creating visual aids, storyboards, sketches and drawings of new designs, room layout, displays, marketing & new initiatives etc. 

    Assist buying with the product workshops by influencing the range build.

    • Ensuring a well-balanced assortment by using relevant tools
    • Ensuring what was presented at design brief is built into the ranges.
    • Ensuring correct fabric choices and colour choices are relevant for the items.
    • Ensure that the ranges are relevant and on trend by leveraging all data and resources available. 

    Develop product technical packs where required coordinating with buying and technology in line with critical path.

    • Conduct concept and garment fits with technology in line with critical path.
    • Execute accurate technical packs once styling has been established.
    • Ensure correct fabric, trims and colour detail.
    • Edit approach to seasonal colours and key items.
    • Identify key fabrics and fabric newness (fabric development)
    • Identify and develop new opportunities and key volume items.
    • Understand supplier capabilities and working to their strengths.
    • React to trends.
    • Incorporate labelling and branding within technical packs where appropriate. 

    Support the Buyer in product execution by assisting:

    • Buying with the approval of strike offs
    • Buying in the selection of fabrics and trims
    • Buying and Technology during the fit process to affect overall product aesthetic.

    Minimum requirements

    • Relevant Design diploma / degree
    • Highly proficient in the Adobe Suite of programmes including InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop
    • 2 to 5 years Commercial/Design experience
    • Experience in 3D renders and influencing packaging design and formats would be an advantage.
