    Development Manager

    Description

    • The International Development Department (DEVO) at Greenpeace International (GPI) is seeking a Development Manager to join its team. We are looking for a passionate candidate to help drive the Greenpeace global federation to better campaign on the climate crisis, by ensuring the continual growth and development of its individual National Regional Organisations’ (NRO’s) organisational strategic alignment, management and governance.
    • As Development Manager, you will provide strategic support and advice to NRO leadership and in the process, uphold the integrity of the Greenpeace global organisation and movement. You will  serve as the primary interface among the different stakeholders within Greenpeace.  In this role you will be working closely with the Senior Development Manager.
    • There is a strong need for an individual with a solid understanding of the Asian and/or African region to be able to support Greenpeace NROs in these regions. Location preference is Amsterdam. Candidates with existing ability to live and work in Asia or Africa could potentially be located at a relevant NRO (subject to approval).
    • An ideal candidate would have solid, accumulated senior management experience in non-profit or for-profit setups, covering both the operations at headquarters as well as in the field (national /regional) office(s). The candidate should be an innovative  problem solver and excellent collaborator and communicator who can help resolve conflicts and address the needs and concerns of different stakeholders. Having financial analysis and 
    • strategic financial management experience and cross-cultural management experience would be a bonus.
    • This is a full time structural position offered for 1 year initially with the possibility of extension.

    Some of your duties will include:

    • Developing the DEVO strategy (in line with Greenpeace International and global organisation strategies), advising Management and Leadership teams on prioritisation and allocation of resources, keeping abreast of relevant trends and changes and informing relevant stakeholders of possible implications.
    • Lead and manage the development, analysis and approval processes of  NROs’ Three Year Strategic Plan (3YSP) and annual Organisational Development Plan (ODP), and ensure that these plans are effectively aligned with the agreed global organisation’s strategy. 
    • Pilot the monitoring and periodic reviews of NRO performance against the strategic and annual plans and recommend adjustments or changes to the plans, while reporting and sharing the results regularly or upon request. 
    • Proactively gather information and identify challenges being faced and timely inform and advise the relevant stakeholders. 
    • Propose and lead the development of global initiatives, programmes and mechanisms which enable NRO’s to improve their performance and address challenges by convening relevant stakeholders
    • Facilitate networking and sharing of knowledge and best practices between NROs.
    • Provide analysis and recommendations to the organisation on how to pre-empt, mitigate or resolve crises in an NRO 
    • Represent Greenpeace International in the NRO Boards and actively participate in meetings and proceedings, acting as a point of contact for all governance matters.  
    • Monitor and ensure that NRO governance systems are in line with the Framework Agreement and with global governance rules of procedures and standards and that NRO Boards implement the relevant changes to their governance systems and practices. 
    • Proactively participate in the selection processes for various relevant senior functions within NROs and maintain a high-quality process for recruitment and development as mandated by the International Executive Director. 
    • Advise the organisation on necessary action to avoid gaps or breaches to global practices and standards, and when necessary, ensure that sanctions for severe or chronic breaches are agreed and implemented.
    • Actively contribute to leadership development programmes and mentor and coach where and as needed in agreement with the relevant NRO concerned, to strengthen the capacity of NROs and the Department to respond to multiple and complex demands from the global organisation.

    ​​​​​​Requirements

    What we are looking for:

    • Masters degree in management or administration or equivalent. 
    • Minimum 5 years experience in senior management or organisational management and/or development roles
    • Minimum 3 year proven practitioner experience at a senior level in at least one of the following fields: Strategic Human Resources Management, Financial Management, Conflict Resolution, Crisis Management, Governance, Advocacy or Political Strategy, Legal 
    • Project & change management experience, ideally experience in organisational development.
    • Ability to engage, influence and persuade multiple stakeholders at very senior level (Executive Directors, Management Teams and Boards), displaying a diverse range of leadership experience to manage and coordinate multidisciplinary teams towards delivery of global strategies
    • Excellent communication, presentation and networking skills coupled with a strong ability to find creative solutions to complex problems (written and verbal English is essential – fluency in other languages is an advantage)
    • A good track record of delivering complex programs or projects involving capacity building and/or significant knowledge sharing activities
    • Willingness to travel 
    • Commitment to Greenpeace’s goals and affinity with Greenpeace values
