Director: (Transport, Fleet, Business Operations) Logistical Services
An Honour’s Degree (NQF Level 8) in (Transport and Fleet Management, Business Operations – PREFERRED) OR Logistics Management OR Business Management OR related field.
6 to 10 years’ experience as a senior manager responsible for operations and/or transport, fleet services.
Prior experience in managing transport, fleet, operations.
Experience in management of routes scheduling and maintenance of insourced/outsourced services.
Strategic planning background in relation to all facets of logistical services (transport, fleet) area of business operation.
Exposure to the development of budgets, cost control, and related budgetary management.
Management of human capital, performance management, absenteeism, and disciplinary processes.
Outstanding analytical, problem-solving, and organisational abilities.
Summary of Duties:
Develop and implement integrated transport, fleet, operations management systems / strategy to support Institutional strategy/objectives.
Direct transport, fleet, operations plans which ensure proper coordination to connect business services across the board to maximise returns while providing strong support to operations in adherence to performance standards.
Strategically plan and manage transportation and fleet services.
Ensure Integrated Planning amongst all Logistics: Transport & Fleet Infrastructure and Operational Stakeholders.
Manage the planning and/or implementation of logistics projects and improvement of processes.
Ensure that all logistics solutions are fully integrated.
Develop and implement strategies and best practices within the function for purposes of enhancing service delivery and efficiencies.
Investigate and introduce/implement new and automated or digital ways of delivering the logistics function in line with required labour, service levels, costs and customer needs.
Advise on the development of a logistics operating model and value chain that enhances the logistics function and optimizes productivity of the human capital.
Facilitate the ability of logistical services to remain technologically competitive.
Implement a centralised transport/fleet management system.
Oversee the continuous development and implementation of Logistical Information System, maintenance and functionality of the system.
Plan driver resource strategically, tactically and operationally to utilise fleet to its maximum capacity.
Deploy appropriate controls and procedures to effectively and efficiently manage all aspects of customer service and communication.
Oversee cost control and performance, actively seeking to improve efficiency, reduce operating costs, increasing margin whilst meeting budget.
Manage the lease or outsource process and other logistics functions.
Ensure fleet, transport and logistical services are managed in accordance with the policies of the University, by rendering the following operational services.
Ensure availability of vehicles (internal or outsourced) through effective servicing programme and other means.
Manage the costs of running the fleet to the advantage of the university.
Allocate vehicles according to requirements ensuring best fit of vehicle to task.
Ensure proper maintenance of the fleet in accordance with standard operating procedure as agreed to with the service providers.
Direct the various functions of printing operations including graphic arts, photocopy, offset press, and bindery to achieve quality printing in a timely, efficient, and cost-effective manner.
Promotes preventative maintenance as a strategy thus extending the operational life of printing and postal equipment.
Operate an independent mail service by ensuring that the University's mail service complies with rules and regulations in the receipt, handling and distribution of all classes of mail.
Analyse the HR plan, determine the relevant deliverables and set performance targets for the own team in the department.
Develop and implement performance management targets.
Manage the department in accordance with policies, procedures and legal requirements.
Complete management actions within the required time frames.
Monitor and evaluate the impact of own repartees development interventions on performance.
