    Divisional Communications Practitioner

    Divisional Communications Practitioner

    (Six-month contract)

    About The Job

    The CSIR has a vacancy for Divisional Communications Practitioner. The incumbent will assist the Divisional Communication Managers to communicate internally and externally, in line with the CSIR communication strategy, to ensure consistency in CSIR messaging. This position is based in Pretoria.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Contribute to the development and implementation of cluster and project-specific communication plans targeting external and internal audiences, in support of and in alignment with the CSIR communication strategy;
    • Assist in gathering content to be used in CSIR promotional material, including brochureware, event-specific publications, multimedia products, exhibition material and presentations supporting the CSIR’s work, in line with CSIR corporate identity guidelines and processes, in close collaboration with the business development and commercialisation function;
    • Implement other communication actions, including the planning and execution of events, direct marketing campaigns and advertising in close collaboration with central communication as directed by the relevant Divisional Communication Manager;
    • Identify and exploit opportunities for publicity in print, electronic and online media in line with CSIR policies, guidelines, and procedures. This includes drafting media releases and responses;
    • Identify key events for CSIR participation;
    • Assist in the implementation of events such as open days for different clusters in conjunction with the CSIR’s events and business development and commercialisation functions;
    • Contribute to efforts to ingrain organisational values, vision, and mission to ensure an informed workforce;
    • Contribute content to internal communication tools and campaigns, including the intraweb;

    Write and maintain content to be used in all current and any new CSIR-owned media including:

    • Annual Report
    • Science Scope
    • Electronic newsletter
    • Intraweb
    • CSIR website at www.csir.co.za
    • CSIR official social media platforms
    • Video and multimedia products
    • The CSIR Conference and associated communication products

    Qualifications, Skills And Experience

    • A minimum qualification of a bachelors degree in Science Communication or Journalism or Public relations with at least three to five years communication experience

    A proven track record in the following:

    • Writing
    • Presentations
    • Stakeholder engagement at a strategic level
    • Project management
    • Electronic media and platforms
    • Science communication as a specialised area of communication
    • Proven competence in reputation management
    • Media relations skills
    • Advanced communication skills, both written and verbal
    • Advanced computer literacy
    • Creativity and innovation
    • Adaptability and networking skills

    All international qualifications require an evaluation report / certificate issued by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).
