Key Responsibility Areas

• Compiles and updates basic and complex specifications and standards of broadly available and unavailable technical systems within the Communication Network.
• Compiles and adjudicates basic and complex tenders relating to broadly available and unavailable technical aspects of the fibre, radio and wireless, data, copper and other media systems of the Communication Network.
• Introduces new basic and complex sub-systems, systems and focus technologies, and, maintenance and fault repairs to the backbone of the Fibre Optic Network of the Communications Network.
• Introduces new basic and complex sub-systems, systems and focus technologies and, maintenance and fault repairs to the customer connections which are directly connected to the backbone of the Fibre Optic Network of the Communication Network.
• Introduces new basic and complex sub-systems, systems and focus technologies, and, maintenance and fault repairs to the Radio and Wireless Network of the Communications Network and customer connections to it.
• Introduces new basic and complex sub-systems, systems and focus technologies, and, maintenance and fault repairs to the Technical Data Network and customer connections to it.
• Introduces new basic and complex sub-systems, systems and focus technologies, and, maintenance and fault repairs to the Copper Pilot Network of the Communication Network and customer connections.
• Introduces new basic and complex sub-systems and focus technologies, and, maintenance and fault repairs to other identified communication systems of the Communication Network and other customer connections.
• Provides specialised software and hardware tools required to undertake trouble shooting and monitoring of the operation of the communication system.
• Monitors the performance and utilisation of the existing fibre, copper, data, radio and wireless and other media systems of the communication networks.
• Manages and maintains central computerised technical records and drawings relating to the communication networks, customer connections and the division.
• Initiates the acquisition of goods, materials and services.
• Accepts appointment in terms of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (1993) and regulations.
• Ensures compliance with safety rules as stipulated in Chapter 25 of the Town Clerks Standing Orders.

Essential Requirements

• Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Engineering (NQF Level 8) in Electronic or Computer or Electrical Engineering.
• Registered as a Candidate Engineer (Electrical) with the Engineering Council of South Africa
• (ECSA) within 3 months of employment.
• Valid motor vehicle driving license
• 2 years relevant post qualification experience.
