Do plant walk downs, including a comprehensive visual inspection of the plant on at least a monthly basis checking the correct operation of all accessible parts of the turbine and auxiliary systems and Record monthly all significant abnormal events, occurrences that occurred on the turbine.
A monthly report will be submitted by the Resident Service Engineer to the client. Advise on the required turbine history recording, such as running hours and start/stops, etc. Offer advice when informed of an excursion on plant performance. Investigate and report on turbine occurrences.
Advise, specification and provision of procedures to enable the client to re-commission turbine plant and auxiliaries, particularly following major outage work, including attendance during return to service of turbine plant to provide on the spot” advice if so required. Be available for emergency consultation during unplanned turbine failure incidents. Provide detailed reports to relevant client representatives when requested to do so.
Observed deviations from recommended procedures and good practices applicable to operation and maintenance. Attend a 3 monthly technical discussion meeting between similar designed Eskom Power Stations.
Recommend scope of work for all major planned outages. Determination of the maintenance requirement and the scope of work, prior to general overhauls, and specialist services required from the Engineer. A report will be submitted subsequent to planned and unplanned outages. The submission dates for these reports will be three months after a General Overhaul and one month after a Mini General Overhaul, Interim Repair and unplanned outage.
Identification and optimization of spares to be held to support planned overhauls and other maintenance. Compiling of technical specifications for plant operation and maintenance, including the recommended purchase of replacement parts.
Communication channel to the OEM on technical matters and information required for the operation and maintenance of the turbines. Provision of information and documentation as and when required. Revising, monitoring and updating of relevant Alstom/GE documentation, to ensure correct application of operating and maintenance procedures.
Carry out ad hoc audit reviews of operating and maintenance practices and report any deviations to the client.
Provide turbine related training as per the needs of the client’s turbine system engineers and the transfer of technology and know-how to enable the client’s system engineers to support the operating and maintenance functions. Inform the client of the latest engineering designs and developments that may improve the plant design to the benefit of the client.
Assist with compiling technical specifications for the South African refurbishment turbine components. The Scope is also subject to mutual agreement between the Engineer and client. Regularly informs the client about the fleet experience on similar turbine islands supplied by the Engineer. This shall be in the form of a documented report submitted on an agreed periodicity, but at least every six months.
Required Qualifications
B Tech. or B Eng. degree in Mechanical Engineering
5+ years experience in Steam Turbine operation, maintenance, projects and installation
Computer skills: MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.
