Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience

• A Doctoral Degree in a discipline applicable and related to the Faculty of Informatics & Design (i.e Media, Information Technology, Design, Urban & Regional Planning & Architectural Technology)
• At least four (4) years' relevant teaching experience in a tertiary institution
• At least two (2) years’ management experience Successful supervision of post-graduates to completion Record of publications in peer-reviewed journals
• Exposure in proposal writing and research funding applications

Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities

• Overall leadership and responsibility for Research, Technology, Innovation and Partnership in the faculty with oversight from the Dean
• Manage general research activities in the Faculty (e.g chairing Faculty proposal defences; maintaining a database for research funding etc)
• Provide appropriate academic and administrative leadership
• Provide oversight in conjunction with head of departments to appointment for Adjunct Professors, 
• Research Fellows and postdoctoral fellows
• Evaluate ConfCom and URF applications Chair Faculty Research Committee
• Represent the Faculty in appropriate Committees (incl. regional and national committees) Measure and report on RTIP progress to relevant stakeholder and institutional committees Participate in quality assurance activities
• Manage the Faculty research fund
• Assist in research policy development of the University Promote research development of staff and students
• Maximize education and research opportunities and support research uptake initiatives
• Liaise between the institutional research office and Faculty
• Coordinate research colloquia and workshops for the Faculty Coach and mentor inexperienced researchers
• Supervise postgraduate students
• Develop and maintain linkages with industry, professional bodies and promote community participation
•  Perform other functions as may be assigned by the Dean
