    Instrumentation Engineer Level II

    Main Purpose Of Job

    • To assist the Lead or Senior C&I Engineer to carry out all C&I engineering and design work in accordance with agreed codes and practices that meets all requirements of the contract. Also, to assist the Lead or Senior C&I Engineer in ensuring all work is carried out within agreed schedules, budgets and procedures in a safe manner.
    • To conduct engineering and design work under the supervision of a Senior or Lead C&I Engineer, as per the requirements set out in the Technical Stewardship Standard. The C&I Engineer would be seconded to projects in a relevant sector.

    C&I Engineering and Design

    • Undertake C&I Engineering and design activities as required by the project, which could include system and/or equipment calculations, C&I datasheets, engineering requisitions, C&I equipment lists, technical bid evaluations, C&I design criteria, input into the Basis of Design document, Safe and sustainable Engineering for Asset Life Cycle (SEAL) plan input, relevant design drawings and other C&I engineering related deliverables.
    • Produce deliverables in line with the required quality requirements that is safe, functional and legally compliant.
    • Ensure that all deliverables produced are reviewed and approved by a Senior / Lead C&I Engineer.

    • Utilise approved software and other analysis tools (like validated spreadsheets) for the design of C&I equipment.
    • Have a functional working knowledge of SmartPlant P&ID (SP&ID), SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI), IDES and other C&I engineering software, as applicable to the area of speciality in order to manage the delivery of the C&I design documentation.
    • Liaising with other discipline engineers on technical issues and engineering matters, including the provision of discipline specific advice on issues not covered by design guides.
    • Compliant, safe and functional C&I equipment designs integrated with the plant.
    • Develop an understanding of national, industry codes and standards and Customer specifications.
    • Apply the required codes, standard and Customer specification in the design and engineering of equipment and plant.

    Project Execution

    • Support the C&I Engineering team on projects to complete the design work on time within the available man hour budget and obtain experience and on-the-job training of the Worley procedures and work methods.
    • Meet or improve on project deliverable dates.
    • Meet or improve on the allocated man-hour allowance for the agreed deliverables.

    • Support C&I engineering activities like compiling relevant project documentation. This could include, but not limited to, system and/or equipment calculations, C&I datasheets, engineering requisitions, C&I equipment lists, technical bid evaluations, C&I design criteria, input into the Basis of Design document, DTDP input, SEAL plan input, relevant design drawings and other project documents.
    • Assist with the set-up of projects as per Worley requirements to ensure engineering governance.
    • Deliverables produced to be in the correct format, templates and revision sequencing as per procedure.
    • Undertake site support activities during construction and/or commissioning for the purpose of gaining practical experience and understanding practical aspects of design.
    • Assist with construction related queries as engineering interface on site, under supervision.
    • Participate, under guidance, structured project reviews to gain experience and insight into the relevant review processes like PFD Reviews, P&ID Reviews, HAZIDs, HAZOPS, plot plan reviews, model reviews, etc.
    • Participate where required to gain experience.
    • Review and comment on vendor documents (including equipment and packages) for compliance to purchase order / contract requirements as well as to integrate equipment into the broader plant.
    • Verify compliance of supplier equipment to purchase order / contract requirements and integrated within the plants.
    • All Supplier / Contractor documents reviewed as per the Worley Supplier Document Management requirements.
    • Ensure that relevant Supplier / Contractor documents are squad checked by relevant disciplines.
    • Liaison with other project discipline engineers as required on projects and fosters a productive working relationship to ensure that technically acceptable solutions are devised and implemented, under supervision of the Lead / Senior C&I Engineer.
    • Technical solutions to engineering and design problems experienced on projects.
    • Undertake site support activities during construction and/or commissioning for the purpose of gaining practical experience and understanding practical aspects of design.
    • Assist with construction related queries as engineering interface on site, under supervision.
    • Technical Stewardship and SEAL Compliance
    • Understand and implement the requirements of the Technical Stewardship Plan, as well as include all specified engineering codes, standards, procedures, quality plans and in accordance with the SEAL Plan for the project.
    • C&I Engineering deliverables compliant with industry codes and standards, as well as customer specifications, or Worley standards.
    • Assist with Technical Peer reviews (when requested) and assist in closing out findings where applicable.

    • Maintain a personal accountability to achieving a ‘right first time’ approach on all deliverables.
    • All deliverables to be of a high standard and to be reviewed only once a thorough self-check has been conducted.
    • Responsible for personal safety and understand the Asset Lifecycle implications of the design and ensure that hazards / risks are being identified and mitigated and to adhere to safe working practices. Understand and implement all legal requirements as required by the Occupational Health and Safety Act and/or the Mines Health and Safety Act within C&I Engineering.
    • All engineering and design compliant to the SEAL Plan and legal requirements.
    • Training and Development
    • Responsible for his/her professional development as an engineer.
    • Attend internal and external courses in line with Individual Development Plan, as well as self-study and course work.

    • Responsible to keep regular contact with Mentor, set up mentor meetings, keep minutes as well as updating his ECSA training plan and write Technical Experience Reports. This is all required to register as a Pr Eng or Pr Tech Eng with ECSA.
    • Have mentorship sessions on a regular basis.
    • Compile Training plans, minutes of mentorship meetings and Technical Experience Reports.

    Requirements Of The Job

    The minimum educational, qualifications and experience that are required to perform the job competently:
    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Minimum BEng, BSc, BTech or MSc in Electrical (Light Current) or Electronic Engineering or a related field or applicable discipline, typically a C&I Engineering degree or equivalent experience if allowed by law.
    • Registered as a Candidate Engineer or Candidate Engineering Technologist with ECSA.

    Experience:

    • Minimum 5+ years (BSc/BEng/BTech), or 4+ year (MSc/MEng) of post qualification experience.
